Start your planning to attending the Wichita Symphony Orchestra Young People’s Concerts. The fall concert is November 8, 9, and 10. The spring concert is Jan 24, 25, and 26. We will pick a day that works for the largest number of families. We have to register by October 7 at the latest, so start checking your calendars now and let me know if you are interested. The cost is $16 total. This pays for both concerts. This is a fun way to introduce your kids to orchestra music. The orchestra always picks fun music themes for each concert. This fall is:
November 8-10, 2022: Gershwin's Magic Key
Classical Kids Live!
Kyle Dickson, conductor
Wichita Symphony Orchestra
The award-winning Classical Kids Live! returns to Wichita with their story about the famous American composer George Gershwin. Step into the streets of 1920s New York City, where a newspaper boy has a chance encounter with the famous composer George Gershwin. Together they explore the many sights and sounds of the city. As the orchestra magically weaves Gershwin's greatest hits into the drama, the master composer shares some of his musical inspiration and quickly learns that his new friend has musical talent, too. But can the boy find the magic key to unlock his musical potential? Find out at this inspiring story that includes vintage film of the Big Apples from the Roaring 20s.
January 24-26, 2023: Hear the Music. Write the Stories.
Barbara Scowcroft, conductor
Wichita Symphony Orchestra
What do you imagine when listening to music? Do you make up stories? What do you feel? In this delightful concert, students will experience a range of emotions and will be encouraged to create their own stories. There are no wrong answers, and the horizons are unlimited. The music is a romp through orchestral favorites that open the door to their world of orchestral music. Join us for this symphonic journey. Just bring your imagination!

Why should you enroll your preschool or grade-school age child in music classes? Learning music strengthens the same neural pathways needed for reading. In music we practice decoding, tracking, and sequential memory just to name a few reading processes. (Research and analysis from D. Hansen, E. Bernstorf, and G. M. Stu we, 2007)

My name is Susan and I have a masters in music education from WSU and have been teaching music classes and lessons for fifteen years. I am passionate about helping students develop in musical understanding in order to grow into independent musicians who can create and perform music independently, rather than simply listen to music produced by others.
