“It takes a student years to prepare to do calculus, and it takes a student years to prepare to read Tolstoy or Dante or Shakespeare. A reading plan with a purpose should start at the very beginning of a student’s education. Yes, we absolutely need to teach phonics and reading comprehension, but that is the starting line, not the finish line. The end must be clear, and students should be taught to read great works in all the necessary ways.” -Leigh Lowe

A gift to you on this day! Happy Mother’s Day! We are thankful for all our mothers and their devotion to their children :)
Sound on 🔊 to hear these children sing! This was at a “Lily Moms” meeting last Tuesday.

Smiles for miles! We love our school and all that the Lord is doing through Covenant Christian Academy.

“Serit arbores quae alteri seculo prosint” is a Latin phrase meaning “He/she plants trees for the benefit of another generation (or century)”. Originally pinned by Cicero, it was a motto adopted by John Quincy Adams who saw the long term benefits of planting trees in one’s youth to sit under their shade in adulthood. So too is the planting of classical education in young minds. It takes a long time to cultivate but they will be able to enjoy the fruit and shade of a well formed mind in adulthood. Those who work behind the scenes to plant the “trees” are doing so for the long term benefit of the children and future generations. Though we may never fully sit under the shade ourselves, we plant, water and cultivate our school, our newly planted tree. 🌳

☄️Last Friday was our 3rd annual Field Day! Described as one student as the “best day ever”, the morning was filled with fun for all! From sack races, obstacle courses, steal the bacon, and dirty back yard games to tug-of/war and water balloon toss there was never a dull moment!

Thank you to all our volunteers and families who joined us on this day! ☀️

Ad annum proximum!

👏Congratulations to our kindergarten and first graders who completed their independent expositions over the past several weeks. We have now concluded the expositions for each grade from our extended day classes.

Each student grew in confidence and eloquence as they recited a poem, excerpt or scripture from memory!

Macte virtute, discipuli!

🎼Students, staff and parents had the privilege of hearing a dynamic organ presentation from Dr. Leigh Fleury on Monday. They were able to interact with the instrument, ask questions, and hear a couple musical pieces including J.S Bach. We ended our time singing the hymn of the year, Be Thou My Vision.

Thank you Dr. Fleury! 👏
