Just a Mom with an Idea....

As a homeschool mom I’m always looking for ways to maximize our learning and help my kids remember the information I am teaching the best. We were trying to learn memory work one semester and I sadly realized we hadn’t done nearly as much drawing as I had originally planned - there just wasn’t enough time for everything. Then it dawned on me, why not do both at once? Why not draw what we are learning about? Why not expand drawing skills and also enhance our memory on the subject and its parts? Instead of just learning to draw, we can be intentional with WHAT we are learning to draw and DRAW TO LEARN valuable educational information! So many of the how to draw for kids books I had come across had the same basic set of drawings: animals, basic figures, food, etc. But kids are able to draw so much more beyond those simple subjects. Why not draw the layers of the atmosphere? Why not learn to draw the types of invertebrates? Instead of just learning to draw, how about we draw TO learn and do both simultaneously? My product is my answer to these questions and I'm excited to share it with you!

Here are my Top 10 Homeschool Essentials in no particular order that help me homeschool year after year!

1. Color Laser Printer
I spent years without an awesome, fast printer, and this upgrade was so helpful! It has lasted me about 7 years so far and I really love how quickly it can copy or print color pages, how I can load a big stack of papers in the top and it can copy them in order, etc. Mine is older, so a newer version would probably be better to buy, but my recommendation is a “Color Laserjet” Printer that can Print, Scan, and Copy” with a loader on top that can hold quite a stack of papers.

2. Laptops for Older Kids

Once our kids hit Middle School, it became apparent that one laptop (mine) wouldn’t suffice for all of us throughout the school day! We were utilizing my laptop for Youtube Videos of our Memory Work, to watch our favorite World Watch news program, Abeka Online Language Arts videos, math instructional videos, using it for IEW Writing Instruction videos, Google Docs to write papers, etc!

3. Curriculum We Enjoy

Over the years, we have slowly figured out what curriculum works best for our family. I’ll do a dedicated post on our favorites soon, but it boils down to: Literature Rich History Programs that provide Read Aloud options like Sonlight History/Bible/Literature, Classical-Style History like the Story of the World Series for Elementary, Strong and Affordable Math programs like Math Mammoth, Abeka Bible and Classical Conversations Memory Work for Morning Time, etc.

(Links to all of these are in my blog post… at www.wedrawtolearn.com)

5. Laminating Machine

6. Binding Machine

7. Large Cutter

8. ClipBoards for Individual Work / School Work Checklist

9. Chore Chart

10. Time Management Plan
