Last night the Westside High School Class of 1976 celebrated the 50th anniversary of our graduation. We had 104 in attendance and what a reunion it was! We spent an evening with friends we haven’t seen since graduation day in 1976. Those in this picture have formed our planning committee for the last three reunions. What a special group of life-long friends they have been! We’ll have professional photos in about a week, so more to come.
As you might remember Coach Gerald Barnes first year as baseball coach at Westside was our senior year, 1975-76. I wanted to let everyone know that Coach Barnes last home regular season game at Westside will be Friday, April 22 at 5:30 p.m. against the Laney Wildcats. Coach Barnes will be honored at the game and there will be a cookout after the game so that everyone can visit with Coach Barnes. We want to fill the stadium to make Coach Barnes last game a memorable one. Put it on your calendar and we hope to see you there!

What a great time we had at our recent Westside High School Class Reunion celebrating 45 years since we graduated in 1976. We had 83 people in attendance at the home of our gracious hostess Linda Meehan Dickey. We played a little Westside 1976 trivia and gave out some nice prizes. Legendary baseball coach Gerald Barnes was in attendance. Coach Barnes's first year as a teacher and coach was our senior year in 1976. We asked those in attendance to make a contribution so our class could give a gift to Westside. I'm happy to report that yesterday I presented Westside principal William Smith a check for $2,000.00 from our class. It was so good to see many of my classmates at the reunion that I haven't seen in many years. Hard to believe in 5 years we'll be celebrating our 50th! Where has the time gone?
Five months from today on October 23, 2021 the Westside Class of 1976 will have a 45th reunion celebration. Earlier today I emailed details of the event to our mailing list. If you didn’t get the email please let me know on this page by sending me your email address or you can call or text me at 706-339-4379. We are excited about the event and look forward to seeing all of our Class of 76 friends there.
If you know any 1976 graduates who you could share this page with and ask them to like it, that would help more people get info that we’ll send out!! Thanks! 🙂

I wanted to let everyone know in the Class of 76 that our beloved friend Henry Avery died a couple of weeks ago. I understand from a friend who went to his funeral that he contracted COVID-19 in mid-2020 and recovered, but he got it again recently and didn’t survive the second time. Henry was such a friend to many and we all remember what a lovable teddy bear kind of guy he was. He was really excited we had a class reunion back in 2019 and had such a good time seeing everyone. He was looking forward to our upcoming reunion again this October. Henry will be greatly missed.
Class Reunion Information - Greetings Class of 1976!! What a crazy year 2020 has been!! Let’s hope 2021 will make a big comeback and we can get back to life as usual. I don’t know if you’ve done the math or not, but 2021 will be the 45th anniversary of our graduation from beloved Westside High School and we’re already in the planning stages for next year’s class reunion. If you were super smart and graduated early or if you moved out of town and graduated somewhere else, we’d still love to see you at the reunion. You will always be a part of the great Class of 76.
I’m happy to announce our 45th Anniversary Class Reunion will be SATURDAY, OCTOBER 23, 2021. Please stop what you are doing right now and put it on your calendar. We want to see you and your spouse/guest next year.
For those who weren’t aware, we had a 43rd Anniversary Reunion in 2019 and it was so much fun! Linda Meehan Dickey hosted us at her lovely home, which made for a very casual and comfortable atmosphere. The food and fellowship was totally awesome! We had about 35 classmates and 55 with spouses/guests. I’ve attached a photo so you can see how many faces you remember. Personally, I don’t think any of us have changed a bit!
Here are the particulars for 2021:
Date: October 23, 2021
Time: 6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
Location: Home of Linda Meehan Dickey (3314 Gwinn’s Lane, Augusta, 30909)
