An Important Message from Miss Rose to Caldwell Cubbies and Families

Crazy Hair Day can be quite... SHOCKING! Happy Halloween from Miss Rose!

See you on Wednesday, Caldwell Cubbies! ❤️
Dear families,
Our team continues to work diligently to prepare PCPS schools to reopen for our students and staff.
However, our schools must remain closed on Monday, Oct. 14, and Tuesday, Oct. 15. We expect to reopen our campuses to students on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
Three factors are impacting our ability to safely reopen our schools: We must have adequate power, food and staffing.
Our utility partners are doing an amazing job and working around the clock to restore power. But total or partial outages persist at more than 30 school sites.
Our facilities staff have been tirelessly working to prepare our campuses. But we need more time to finish necessary repairs and cleanup work. School kitchens must be fully operational and able to accept delivery of new food items.
We are also learning that some of our school-based staff are unable to return Monday due to their own difficult storm-related circumstances.
Again, students will NOT return to school on Monday and Tuesday. We expect to reopen our campuses to students on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
Even though schools will be closed Monday and Tuesday, PCPS staff will be mobilizing and working to reopen campuses.
All available district employees will return on Monday, Oct. 14, to their district offices and work sites. Their offices and work sites have power and been cleared to resume operations.
All available PCPS school-based staff, including teachers, will return to their school sites on Tuesday, Oct. 15, to help complete final preparations for reopening.
Any staff members facing major challenges after the storm should speak with their supervisors regarding their return to work.
When schools reopen, we anticipate being short-staffed on some essential personnel, including bus drivers. We ask for your patience.
We understand that school closures raise concerns regarding the loss of instructional time, and the possibility of makeup days. We remain in contact with the Florida Department of Education on our status and the challenging circumstances facing our community. We will keep you informed on any plans regarding potential makeup days.
Thanks for your understanding as we strive to return to normal operations. We appreciate your support and look forward to our students and staff returning to school.
*We will be following the regular calendar when we return. We'll keep you posted about potential make-up days.*

Good afternoon, we hope you're all safe.
PCPS continues to assess the condition of our schools and check on our staff. At this time, we have not reached a decision about school operations resuming on Monday, Oct. 14.
We will not have an answer until sometime this weekend — perhaps even Sunday. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to safely reopen our schools.
Please see our complete update here: https://www.polkschoolsfl.com/news/storm_recovery_update_continues_to_inspect_schools
We also sent this information as a SchoolMessenger email to all PCPS families. We'll be in touch this weekend, take care.

Dear families,
This is an important update regarding Hurricane Milton.
This storm is expected to continue strengthening and impact our state in the coming days.
Based on the most current forecast, we do not expect significant weather in Polk County tomorrow, Monday, Oct. 7. Consequently, all PCPS schools and offices will remain open during regular hours tomorrow.
However, we will be canceling or rescheduling Monday’s after-school programs and sports. For specific information about rescheduled events, we encourage you to reach out to your child’s school directly.
Please be advised that all PCPS schools and offices will be closed on Tuesday, Oct. 8, Wednesday, Oct. 9, and Thursday, Oct. 10, in response to this storm.
County emergency officials have directed PCPS to activate some of our schools that will be serving as storm shelters for those evacuating their homes.
County emergency officials will be sharing shelter information with the public as it becomes available. Please note only certain schools will be activated to serve as shelters. Visit the Polk County Government’s website and social media for official shelter information.
Again, all PCPS schools and offices will be closed on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Please note that our decision to close schools does not extend to charter and private schools. We recommend that you contact those institutions directly for any relevant information.
At this time, no decision has been made regarding Friday’s operations for PCPS schools and offices.
We will continue to work closely with emergency management personnel, as well as monitor weather forecasts and this storm’s impact on our community and state.
For any official announcements or updates, please stay tuned for communications via automated phone calls, emails, our website and social media accounts.
As always, your safety is our top priority. We encourage you to prepare adequately and ensure your family is ready for any weather-related challenges.
Thank you for your attention and cooperation. Please stay safe.

Dear families,
We hope this message finds you well. We are reaching out to provide you an important update regarding Tropical Storm Helene and its anticipated impact on Polk County Public Schools.
Our staff has been closely monitoring the storm's path and consulting with Polk County Emergency Management. Based on the most current forecast, we do not expect significant impacts in our area for tomorrow, Wednesday, Sept. 25. Consequently, all PCPS schools and offices will remain open during regular hours.
However, in light of the approaching storm, we will be canceling or rescheduling all after-school programs and sports activities. Please note that all after-school events will conclude by 6 p.m. on Wednesday. For specific information about rescheduled events, we encourage you to reach out to your child’s school directly.
As the storm progresses, we anticipate that Polk County will begin experiencing rain bands and winds between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Wednesday evening. The current forecast indicates that our county may face tropical storm conditions from Thursday morning through 2 a.m. on Friday.
As a precaution, we have made the decision to close all PCPS schools and offices on Thursday, Sept. 26, and Friday, Sept. 27.
This decision is driven by our commitment to the safety of our students and staff. The uncertainty surrounding the storm's trajectory necessitates that we allow our teams adequate time to assess the condition of our campuses and facilities, ensuring they are safe for reopening.
We plan to resume normal operations on Monday, Sept. 30.
At this time, Polk County Emergency Management has indicated that PCPS school sites will not be activated as shelters. We will continue to work closely with county personnel, and we are ready to provide support as needed.
Please note that our decision to close schools does not extend to charter and private schools. We recommend that you contact those institutions directly for any relevant information.
We understand that the decision to close schools significantly impacts the lives of our students, employees, and their families. We greatly appreciate your understanding and patience as we navigate these circumstances together.
