Acclaimed artist and Auburn alumnus Billy Renkl discusses his creative process, artistic influences, and professional life as an artist and illustrator. Join us for Inside the Studio: Collage and Illustration on Wednesday, August 5 from 12-1:30pm at Pebble Hill. This event is free and open to the public.

This program has been made possible in part by grants from Alabama State Council on the Arts and in collaboration with the Alice M. Leahy Memorial Endowment Fund for Excellence, the Caroline Marshall Draughon Center for the Arts & Humanities at Pebble Hill, and the Auburn University College of Liberal Arts.

Program Manager Maiben Beard, along with Auburn University College of Education colleagues Sara Demoiny and Jesús Tirado, recently presented their paper, “Integrating Diverse Narratives in a Historic Site in Alabama,” at the 2026 Social Science Education Consortium, Inc. International Conference in Puerto Rico. Hosted in partnership with the Recinto de Río Piedras de la UPR, and Memoria Decolonial, the conference brought together educators and researchers from around the world under the theme, “From Isolation to Integration: The Connective Power of Education.” Through their presentation, the team engaged in critical dialogue, shared innovative scholarship, and explored how social science education can foster greater integration, justice, and solidarity. Puerto Rico’s colonial status, rich cultural and linguistic traditions, histories of resistance, and expansive diaspora provided a meaningful setting for conversations about how education can address isolation, marginalization, and unequal power. The conference highlighted the unique role of the social sciences in helping communities build understanding, resilience, and connections across diverse experiences.

We are delighted to have William Bartram and Alabama: A Traveling Exhibit on display at the Greenville-Butler County Public Library through July 30!

The library will host an opening reception for the traveling exhibit on Thursday, July 9, from 5 PM – 7 PM. Community members are invited to join us to learn more about William Bartram's travels through Alabama and explore the state's rich natural and cultural heritage.
