Title: Adventure of a Lifetime
Location: London, England Dover, England Edinburgh, Scotland Paris, France
Reflection: I chose these photos because they reflect the mini adventures that I had throughout my study abroad program. The last night I was in London, I climbed a story-tall ladder in the dark down to the Thames Riverbank and checked out a party under one of the bridges, just to see what was happening. I scaled 823 extremely steep feet to the top of Arthur's Seat in Holyrood Park, where I could see all of Edinburgh and the North Sea. I roamed all over the White Cliffs of Dover (which are even more breathtaking up close and personal), explored a cave, and descended the vertical cliffs almost all the way down to the beach. I got to meet J.K. Rowling because my friend recognized her and I went up and spoke to her--this was especially amazing, because I started reading and loving Harry Potter when I was five, and my Auburn lit course centered on that book series in addition to Shakespeare. I ran all the way to the Eiffel Tower in order to make it up to the top before they closed the observation deck for the night--the only night we were in Paris. These were all amazing adventures that made me grow and learn. I would never have experienced them if I wasn't willing to take a bit of a risk and let myself just enjoy the moment, and, well, isn't that what studying abroad is all about?
