At The Passport Project Early Learning, we know that children learn best through play. Each month our curriculum features a new country, where children can learn about a different group of people, language and culture through hands on, play focused activities. Every month will include simple language introduction classes, guest readers, traditional food tastings and displays of cultural attire, helping to give them the global perspective that is necessary to grow our community in compassion and awareness, all while preparing your child for the transition into Kindergarten.

Over the last school year, Lucy has shown tremendous social emotional growth, has learned all of her letters, is able to identify many different countries on our world map, and can bring a smile to anyone's face! Lucy was a gift to our classroom this year, and I'm so happy that after summer break she will be returning for a year of Kindergarten Prep before she starts elementary school. Congratulations on graduating preschool, Lucy!

For the month of June, the children having been learning about the country of Indonesia! Our favorite unit was on arts and culture of Indonesia when the children did an immersive study on Wayang Kulit, or Indonesian Shadow Puppets. The Passport Project Early Learning hopes you all had a week filled with love, laughter and friendship. Here are some highlights from our Valentine's Day Pajama Party that we had on Monday! Together the children conducted a food science experiment by making Valentine's Day hot cocoa stir sticks, developed fine motor skills as they played in their festive sensory bin, had pink pancakes for breakfast, used math skills in our conversation hearts counting activity and worked on their social emotional skills as they fostered their friendships through exchanging the Valentine cards that they prepared. It was a day to remember!

For our Black History Month Highlight this week we learned about Ruby Bridges, the six year old who advanced the cause of civil rights in November 1960 when she became the first African American student to integrate an elementary school in the South. During circle time, we read the book “The Story of Ruby Bridges” and opened up a dialogue on Ruby’s experiences by asking open ended questions to get the children talking. The children all came to the same conclusion that they were proud of Ruby for being brave, and understood that because of Ruby and activists like her, they can attend schools with people from all different backgrounds and skin colors. In recognition, the children made multicultural handprint wreaths, and they all said that just like their school, their wreaths were so much more beautiful with all different colors.
