Last week, Geo Explorer Labs visited Highland Home School, giving students the chance to step into the shoes of meteorologists, paleontologists, geologists, and cartographers! Here’s a look at the topics they explored:
🌪️ Extreme Weather (Tornadoes): Analyzing weather data, forecasting severe alerts, and experiencing simulated winds to evaluate tornado intensity based on storm damage.
🦴 Fossils & Geotime: Modeling paleontology field work by identifying ancient fossils and uncovering clues about Earth’s ancient environments.
🏔️ Landforms & Topography: Building virtual landscapes in an Augmented Reality (AR) Sandbox to model Earth-shaping processes and plan hazard-resilient communities.
🧭 Map Quest (Globetrotter Maps & Coordinate Systems): Navigating the seven continents, mastering compass roses, and using latitude and longitude grids to pinpoint global locations.
🔬 Scale & 'Scope: Zooming in to compare macro map scales with microscopic details, and examining minerals, rocks, soils, and biological specimens up close.
