Taking a moment to recognize Women's History Month with a FUN FACT: By 1920, Oswego County Sheriff's Office had TWO women deputy sheriffs. This was unusual for the times, as the first female police officer in America had only been sworn in 12 years prior, in Portland, OR.
Excerpt from The Fulton Patriot, April 28, 1920: 'Sheriff Parsons has appointed a new woman deputy sheriff. She is Goldie A. Lewis of Sandy Creek. Mrs. Orla A. Soule of Pulaski, his first woman deputy, was appointed last year.'
