Applications are open for our 2025 breeding and foaling season undergraduate internships in internal medicine and field care. Whether you are a current student or recent graduate, our internships offer great opportunities for improving technical skills, getting exposure to a large caseload, and networking. Registration is just around the corner and will open at 8 a.m. on Monday, September 23rd at aub.ie/horseu24!!! Registration is $40 for youth and includes a t-shirt, lunch, snacks, and participant bag. Adult registration is $50, but adults are encouraged to drop off their children to leave more spaces open for youth. Please see the below registration reminders!

Horse U has a date for 2024, so be sure to mark your calendars and "like" the page!

Mark your calendar for Saturday, October 26th for Horse U! This program is for ages 5-18 years and open to all experience levels. Like in past years, we will have a youth and advanced youth program and content changes annually.

This program is planned by undergraduate animal sciences students enrolled in ANSC 2400 - Horse U Program Planning. More details will be available in August as we kick off the semester!

Practical skills are taught in ANSC 4050, Equine Production and Management. Students learned the importance of and how to do sheath and udder cleanings and practice standing wraps. Additionally, students were able to palpate a mare reproductive model to see what a dominant follicle would feel like!

Grayson is a senior graduating with a degree in Animal Sciences - Equine. She was recently named as a 2024 Student Leader of the Year at the AU involvement awards. Way to go Grayson!

Grayson is a graduating Animal Science – Equine student and was recently named a 2024 Student Leader of the Year through the AU Involvement Awards!

Grayson has been highly involved at Auburn. She has served as an undergraduate learning assistant, volunteered and interned with Storybook Farms, and has held numerous leadership roles on the Western IHSA team and through the Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority. Recently, Grayson accepted a job post-graduation as the Equine Manager and Horseback Riding Program Instructor at Storybook Farms.

During the Department of Animal Sciences hosted spring break trip, students toured the World Equestrian Center (WEC) in Ocala, FL and the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) in Wellington, FL. WEC and WEF are both premier equestrian event venues. Students were able to watch a Jumpers Grand Prix Qualifier at WEC. AT WEF students had the chance to meet the Paralympic team and veterinarian for the Olympic games.

During spring break, the Department of Animal Sciences hosted a trip to Florida to visit many leading companies and individuals in the equine industry.

Students were able to tour the production plant of Seminole feeds and learn from company executives. Students also toured the Peterson & Smith Equine Hospital where they were able to see leading veterinary medicine and reproductive technology.
