Cary Center Community and Collegiate Programs, part of Auburn University’s College of Human Sciences, are designed to meet the growing demand for educating, empowering, and equipping the next generation of nonprofit leaders. Through a range of dynamic offerings—including the in-person Nonprofit Training Series, monthly virtual programs, the Nonprofit Affiliate Program, Mix & Mingles, and other outreach initiatives—nonprofit professionals gain valuable networking opportunities and targeted professional development to support their growth as emerging leaders in the sector. At the collegiate level, students are encouraged to realize their full potential through the Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies Major and Minor, as well as the Student Philanthropy Board, preparing them to make meaningful, philanthropic contributions throughout their careers.

Laine Seaton, CFRE, is the Founder and CEO of GreaterGrants, a grant writing and consulting firm based in Glendale, Arizona. Laine has worked in the nonprofit sector for 24 years, serving in numerous roles in fundraising and development for a wide range of organizations. During her career, she has secured significant philanthropic support for missions including homelessness, conservation, early childhood development, social services, STEM education, arts & culture, and healthcare. Since launching GreaterGrants in 2023, Laine has raised more than $7 million in funding from corporate, foundation, and government grants for her clients. Laine holds a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) certification and is a certified Nonprofit Lifecycles Capacity Consultant. She has served on the Board of Directors of AFP Greater Arizona, and is an active member of the Grant Professionals Association, the Association of Nonprofit Specialists, and the Association of Consultants to Nonprofits.

Last week, we were pleased to partner with the the Reid State Foundation to present a day of training in Evergreen. The Cary Center Nonprofit Training Series took place at the Edith A. Gray Library and Technology Center on the beautiful campus of Reid State Community College. This program included sessions on fundraising, marketing, collaboration, and innovative technology. Lunch was sponsored by the Evergreen-Conecuh Chamber of Commerce.

This week, we were pleased to partner with the Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce & Visitor Center and Wallace State Community College to present a day of training in Cullman. The Cary Center Nonprofit Training Series took place at the James C. Bailey Center on the beautiful campus of Wallace State Community College-Hanceville. This program included sessions on board and staff authority, nonprofit storytelling, writing strong grant proposals, and creative fundraising. Lunch was sponsored by Redstone Federal Credit Union.

Robert Friend has spent more than thirty years as a transformational executive leader, expanding commercial and nonprofit organizations through the innovative deployment of marketing, sales, communication, and technology strategies that deliver measurable impact and success. He is a Senior Enterprise Solutions Executive at EventGroove, where he helps national associations and service organizations leverage public-facing events and initiatives to build deeper constituent relationships through authentic digital storytelling that drives engagement. He has presented on artificial intelligence in the nonprofit sector to Non-Profit Tech for Good, the International Ticketing Association, the Montana Nonprofit Association, and the Association of Fundraising Professionals, and taught graduate arts management at Brooklyn College for twenty years. He is a past District Governor of Rotary International District 7980 in Southern Connecticut and served sixteen years on the Board of Trustees of Emerson College, where he earned his degree.
