AU Equine Spring Break Trip 2024

Our last stop of the trip: OBS - Ocala Breeders' Sales to watch the breeze! We also got lucky and met a stud owner at that answered all our questions about breeding and raising thoroughbreds

We finished the day by watching a Grand Prix jumping competition at the World Equestrian Center!

We got a fantastic tour of the World Equestrian Center vet clinic by Auburn alum Jennifer Taintor, featuring all the cool therapeutics they use including water treadmills, dry salt therapy, solar lamps, and a theraplate stall!

We loved getting to see the Paso Finos of Besilu Collection in action, including a 5-time champion! And three of our student riders gave a fantastic demonstration of what these horses can do! Plus, Horse Capital Television was there to interview our students about what they learned

Today we got to visit Wellington International to see hunter/jumpers and dressage. We got a tour of the facility that hosts the most expensive horse show in the world and a chance to ask questions of their director of sponsorship, director of marketing, and veterinarian. Then, we saw a jog for the paraolympic trials and got to hear from paraolympian Beatrice de Lavalette and the team veterinarian. It was an incredible day at a beautiful place!

Day 3: Epcot! In addition to seeing the world, we attended the Disney Imagination Campus leadership training! We learned a lot about how to be a leader and organize projects, plus got to see some behind-the-scenes of Disney operations!

Today we took Animal Kingdom by storm (but with no rain, luckily). Most importantly, we got a behind-the-scenes tour of the elephants, featuring the newest addition to the herd: baby Corra. We learned about elephant breeding and genetic selection, nutrition, physiology, and conservation 🐘🐘🐘

Last stop: tour of the Seminole Feed mill! We learned about grain cleaning, feed processing, milling, pelleting, bagging and selling. This was a great hands on opportunity, and I’m glad to say no one lost said hands helping run the bag sewing machine! Also thanks to Seminole for the lunch!
