A lot of history lost when he passed… miss hearing him tell stories, and his lectures on fitness and eating right.

A notice to all members and interested parties:
A unanimous decision was recently reached by the board of directors and attending members to permanently close WIS (Washington Isshinryu Society).
In combination with the Covid-19 outbreak and Sensei George Shin’s advanced age and health issues, the decision was reached to dissolve the organization allowing Sensei Shin to retire.
Sensei Shin is doing fine and is in good spirits while enjoying a little slower paced life style.
Aside from this decision, we are encouraging you all to continue active participation in the varied martial arts disciplines and events.
Sensei Shin appreciated your support through the years. Thank you!

Teddy Baker
Teddy started training at the Puyallup Dojo in the late 70’s. He would open the dojo, sweep the floor and greet everyone as they arrived. He was typically the first one there and the last one to leave. He was dedicated he trained hard, earned his black belt (all the way to 5th degree). He enjoyed working with new students and helping others. He served on the WIS board. He was the unofficial photographer/videographer taking pictures at all the tournaments, promotions and other events. He was well known for his baked bean dish that he brought to all our events (many times because they were requested). He was always there to help with whatever was needed to be done.
He became part of the Shin family. Attending Shin family reunions in Hawaii, weddings, birthday parties, etc., and always there with his camera around his neck snapping pictures which he shared with all of us. He was always quick with a story, and he would tell it even if you didn’t want to hear it. He always had a smile on his face and his laugh was very recognizable.
He worked at Boeing for 40 years as a tool maker. After retiring from Boeing he started going on cruises. He even had business cards made up which said “cruising in retirement”. Unfortunately he became ill and couldn’t continue training or cruising. However, he still attended most of the tournaments, especially the birthday tournaments including Dad’s recent 93rd birthday celebration.
We will miss you Teddy, but we will not forget you.
