🤩 It's the third and final week of Vet Camp 2026, and we've had a blast!
Each summer, high school students from across the U.S. take over the Auburn Vet Med campus and explore what it means to be a veterinarian. 🩺🐾
From hoof care and suturing to anatomy and radiology, campers get hands-on experience with the different facets of veterinary medicine while learning from Auburn DVM students, faculty and practicing veterinarians.
We’ve enjoyed having these future animal health professionals on campus and can’t wait to see where their journeys take them. Who knows? We may even welcome some of them back as Auburn veterinary students one day. 👋
Special thanks to Auburn Youth Programs for facilitating this experience.

Thinking about getting a new feline friend? 😻
June is Adopt-A-Cat Month, and Auburn Vet Med feline expert Dr. Diane Delmain has some tips to help set you and your future pet up for success. 🐾
🐱🐱 Consider a pair.
If you think you may want more than one cat someday, adopting siblings can help avoid some of the challenges that come with introducing a new cat later on.
🏡 Prepare your space.
Make sure each cat has access to its own essentials, including food, water, litter boxes and enrichment. Don't forget to schedule a veterinary visit and discuss vaccines, parasite prevention, microchipping and spay/neuter care.
⏱️ Be patient.
Remember the "Rule of Three": expect a few days to decompress, a few weeks to adjust and a few months to fully settle into a new routine.
And most importantly? Get ready for the joys of having a cat!

Spirit is officially in her Birdy 30 era. ✨🦅✨
On American Eagle Day, we’re celebrating Spirit’s 30th birthday! 🎂
While her exact hatch date is unknown, Spirit was found as a fledgling in Florida in 1996 with injuries to her beak and wing. Her wing healed, but the damage to her beak meant she couldn’t survive in the wild. She found her forever home at the Auburn University Raptor Center, where she’s been inspiring and educating visitors ever since.
A true icon, Spirit made history in 2002 as the first bald eagle to fly before a game at Jordan‑Hare Stadium. Since then, she’s captivated audiences nationwide with her impressive flights and, of course, her famously chatty personality. 🧡💙
If you see Spirit at a program or event this year, be sure to wish her Happy Birthday — we'll be celebrating all year long!

🐾 CVM PET OF THE WEEK: This week, we're bringing you a double dose of pets who keep life fun for our CVM students, faculty and staff.
Meet Smokey and Kana, the lizard-stalking cat and the adventure-seeking German shepherd. 🦎
🐱 Smokey, a 3-year-old foster fail from CARE Humane Society, found his forever home at just 5 weeks old. Chelsea Waller — a medical technologist in our Department of Pathobiology — says Smokey is happiest when trailing his big sister, Kana, outside and won't pass up an opportunity to catch a lizard.
🐶 When Kana the 4-year-old German shepherd isn't being followed by Smokey, she's on an adventure dock diving, paddle boarding or riding with Chelsea in the side-by-side. Her true obsession? Ice cubes. The sound of the fridge sends her sprinting for a snack.
