What came first, the chicken or the egg? 🥚🐔
Come learn about both poultry and eggs at our meeting this Thursday! We will learn how to judge poultry, and we will have hands-on stations demonstrating how to grade eggs. We hope to see you there!

Last Thursday, we had the opportunity to hear from 3 residents from the Auburn Vet School. Dr. Benson and Dr. Freeman are both specializing in large animal internal medicine, and Dr. Schwartz is specializing in theriogenology. They shared a little bit about each of their paths through vet school, as well as the process of obtaining a specialty in veterinary medicine. We also heard from Jodee Cole, the Student Relations Chair of Ag Council, who talked about what Ag Council does. Thank you to everyone who attended, and we are looking forward to our next meeting on Poultry Science this coming Thursday!

🌟Officer Spotlight🌟

Next up for our officer spotlights we have Maren Lynch! Maren is serving as our Vice President this year. She is a junior, majoring in Animal Science Industries, from Wake Forest, North Carolina. In her free time, Maren enjoys riding horses and clay shooting! Her goals for Block and Bridle this year include increasing attendance and providing more hands-on experiences for members! Last week, we hosted our Equine Handling, Grooming and TPR meeting at Silver Lining Equestrian center! We are so thankful to Auburn University Eventing Club for coming out and teaching us about horses, and for Silver Lining for hosting us at your facility! Members had the opportunity to gain hands on experience with taking vitals, grooming and in hand skills, and we finished out the night with dinner at our social at Waldo's! Thank you to all who came out, and we are so excited to see everyone this week at the Beef Unit for our large animal veterinary resident speaker!

Our first Officer Spotlight of the semester is our president, Jenaffer Bain! Jenaffer is a senior from Smiths Station, AL, majoring in Animal Sciences on the pre-vet track. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, kayaking, cooking, and reading. Her goals for Block and Bridle this year include increasing attendance, and community outreach. Join us this Thursday, September 17th at Silver Lining Equestrian Center for our Horse Handling, Grooming and TPR meeting! We will begin at 6pm. Don't miss this chance to get some great hands on horse experience! In order to attend, you must have completed an Animal Handling Clinic. Please see the sign up sheet in the GroupMe if you plan on coming! As a reminder, we will be working with large animals, so please wear long pants and closed toed shoes. We hope to see you there! 🐴

We had a great time at our Meat Judging and Tasting meeting last week! We had the opportunity to hear from Sarah Williams and Cheyenne Weimer about meat judging and what qualities to look for when grading a carcass. We were also able to sample different cuts of beef (round, ribeye, flank and filet), prepared for us by Cody, our advisor! Members were asked to fill out a survey about each cut’s appearance, texture and flavor, before Cody went into detail about why certain cuts have different qualities. At the beginning of the meeting, we also elected our Jr. Ag Council Rep, Molly VanderWal! We are so excited for her to join our team! Thank you so much to everyone who came, and we are excited to see everyone next week at our Horse Handling meeting!

LITTLE 'I', LITTLE 'I', LITTLE 'I'!!!!

Our members put in the hard work over the past 3 weeks to prepare and train their livestock for show day, and it certainly paid off.

Congratulations to Jewel Thompson, our Grand Champion, as well as Jodee Cole, our Reserve Champion! Everyone did a fantastic job showing their livestock! We hope everyone has enjoyed preparing for this show from start to finish, and had lots of fun. Can’t wait for next year's ;)
