We’re wrapping up an incredible week at the Alabama Center for Paper & Bioresource Engineering!

This week, we hosted Smurfit Westrock Mahrt Mill for our Pulp & Paper Fundamentals Workshop—a four-day experience combining hands-on labs, interactive lectures, and real-world insight into how paper is made.

Participants explored the full process—from wood fibers and pulping to papermaking, testing, and environmental considerations—while getting hands-on experience in our labs along the way.

From lab tours to networking and shared meals, it’s been a fast-paced and impactful week.

This recognition reflects Dr. Jiang’s outstanding contributions to research, education, and service to the profession. We are fortunate to have his leadership and expertise as part of the AC‑PABE community.

It was especially meaningful to share this moment with Gordon Bugg, TAPPI Fellow and valued member of the Auburn Pulp & Paper Foundation. An incredibly well‑deserved honor—congratulations, Dr. Jiang!

What a week! The 2025 Paper & Bioresource Summer Camp last week was a huge success, and we loved hosting 13 incredible rising juniors and seniors from across the region!

From making hand sheets in our pulp & paper lab to touring Georgia-Pacific’s Brewton Mill, exploring Auburn’s engineering campus, and even going behind the scenes at Jordan-Hare Stadium—campers got a hands-on look at the exciting world of paper and bioresource engineering.

A special thank you to Valmet for bringing their virtual reality training experience—it was a highlight for many of our campers!

And of course, a huge thank you to our sponsor, Georgia-Pacific, and to everyone who helped make this experience unforgettable. We’re already looking forward to next year!
