During Week 6 of Summer Camp, our little gardeners were digging into all things flowers! ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ’

From planting their very own flower seeds to creating colorful flower crafts, our campers have been learning what plants need to grow while getting their hands a little dirty along the way. They can't wait to watch their flowers sprout and remind them of all the fun they had during Flower Week! ๐ŸŒธ

Growing minds, growing friendships, and growing flowersโ€”what a beautiful week at summer camp!

Last week, we celebrated Community Helpers Week at the Avondale ELC Summer Camp! We were excited to welcome Officer Ben from the Auburn Hills Police Department for a special visit to our classrooms. ๐Ÿš“

Officer Ben talked with the children about what it means to be a good friend and a helpful member of the community. Although the weather didn't cooperate and we weren't able to go outside to see the police cruiser up close, Officer Ben made sure everyone still had the chance to see and hear it! ๐Ÿšจ

He also shared that his cruiser is sponsored by local organizations that exemplify what it means to be good friends and community helpers. Thank you, Officer Ben, and the Auburn Hills Police Department, for spending time with us and helping make Community Helpers Week so special, and thank you for the take-home items you shared with us! ๐Ÿ–

Air Quality Update โ€“ All Programs Remain Indoors Friday, July 17

Due to poor air quality caused by wildfire smoke affecting our region and out of an abundance of caution, all summer programming on Friday, July 17, will remain indoors.

The health and safety of our students and staff remain our top priority. We will continue to monitor conditions and make adjustments as needed.

๐Ÿš€โœจ Last week, our little astronauts blasted off into an exciting Space adventure! From creating sparkling galaxy sensory bottles to designing colorful planets with coffee filters, markers and water, our young explorers had so much fun learning about outer space. They also used marbles to paint beautiful night skies and practiced number recognition with a fun space-themed matching activity. We love seeing our students learn through creativity, exploration, and hands-on play. It was truly an out-of-this-world week! ๐Ÿชโญ

Nothing says summer and the 4th of July like fireworks painting, rocket pops and water day! ๐ŸŽ† Week 3 was Camping Week at the Avondale Early Learning Center Summer Camp. ๐Ÿ”ฅโ›บ

Campers in Room 104 experimented with paint blobs and straws to create exciting art that makes you say oooooh and aaaaahhhhh! It was fun to discover how the paint spread when concentrated air was blown on it and to see if the colors would mix and create new colors for the fireworks.

๐Ÿ˜ŽThey also beat the summer heat with a tasty treat and time in the sprinkler with their friends.

Our first Water Day was so much fun! We went out early to beat the heat, and splashed and played with our friends and Clifford, our balloon dog sprayer. The grins say it all!

Week 2 of the Avondale ELC Summer Camp was spent Under the Sea! As we explored the Under the Sea theme, our students were building important early learning skills during hands-on arts and crafts projects and engaging math and literacy activities, all while making new friends, using their imaginations and creating unforgettable summer memories! Every day is an opportunity to learn through play and we love seeing their confidence grow through meaningful activities, laughter and connection. ๐ŸŒž๐Ÿ™๐ŸŒŠ

๐Ÿ’› Friendship Week was such a special week in our Summer Camp classroom! ๐Ÿ’›
As we're just beginning our summer together, we spent last week getting to know one another and learning what it means to be a kind friend. We made friendship bracelets, explored color mixing together, and worked as a class to create a friendship chain.

It's been so much fun watching new friendships begin to grow! Every smile, shared toy, helping hand and kind word is helping our classroom become a place where everyone feels welcome. We can't wait to see these friendships continue to blossom throughout the summer! ๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿซถ

Today marks the final visit of our High School Social Emotional Connections group for this school year, and we are leaving with so much gratitude and full hearts.

A very special thank you to Mrs. Ossewaarde, Avondale High School Social Worker, for your ongoing support, dedication and the incredible work youโ€™ve done over these past months. Your care and leadership helped create something truly meaningful for our children.

We are also deeply thankful to the High School Social Emotional Connections students for the learning experiences, exposure and meaningful connections they brought into our classroom throughout every visit. Each moment together helped our preschoolers explore new interactions, build confidence and experience the joy of learning through relationships.

Todayโ€™s final visit was extra specialโ€”full of outdoor fun, big smiles, and a wonderful surprise from Rubix, the Avondale High School social emotional support dog, who brought even more happiness to our day.

What started as an idea has grown into a powerful experience of connection between students of all ages. We are so grateful to have been part of this journey and hope to continue seeing opportunities like this grow in the future.
