You may notice something different when you visit Atlantic City High School this year, and the students are the ones behind it.

For the past month, five artists have been working with the students to help bring their vision to life:

Robert Nexus-Nexx Ortiz (Bob Ortiz), CHANELLE RENÉ • cape may (Chanelle René), LUCY SÁNCHEZ 🦇🇩🇴 (Luz Sanchez), Claudio Picasso, and BKFoxx.

Create 48 and Atlantic City High School working side by side to beautify the school and give students a space they feel proud to walk through. The summer school kids weren’t just spectators. They helped decide what these murals would be, chose what belonged on the walls, and picked up brushes (and cans) to help paint them.

Thank you to Dr. Chapman, who looked at the hallways and wanted them to feel alive. Her vision was to bring artists into the building, brighten it, and put the students right in the middle of the work, shaping the ideas and creating the murals together.

These walls will hopefully help tell their story. Some walls hold history and legacy , the people and moments that built this school. Others look straight ahead at everything these students are still going to become. All celebrate this community and the bright future of AC High.

We hope the freshman walking in this fall, nervous, not sure where they fit, might be able to turn a corner and see the mural they worked on. Just like that, the hallway is theirs. They can pull a friend over and say I did that, that was my idea and it stays with them, growing right alongside them for the next four years.

The walls are almost finished. We can’t wait to show you what they made.
