My friend on my walk today.
I've always referenced seeing the woodpecker as a totem reflecting changes in rhythm... Changes to the schedule of life and path we may be on, as well as new opportunities knocking on our door.
It is a wake-up call as a new door is about to be presented, a creative spark is on the brink of igniting, or a big life change is coming your way.
Exciting stuff! Buckle up. π€ͺ
Apparently the red area of the head in particular with this is about activation and engagement with mental activities. And this can point to the awakening of new mental and crown chakra states.
Shamans in some traditions view this bird as a connection to the otherworld as they ride drumbeats into other dimensions.
Last week I was sick which caused me to cancel all of my classes and to sit in reflection. Yes it forced me to slow down and to get still to hear some inner messages. So much came up in my dreams and waking state about my own rhythm moving forward. I emerged with lots of clarity and I feel seeing this woodpecker today when I finally could get back out for a good walk is a powerful confirmation of it all. Changes, creativity, and opportunities π±
In Ted Andrews "Animal Speak" book, which has been a favorite of mine for 20 years, the last paragraph about woodpeckers has some poignant points for reflection...
The woodpecker flies in a pattern unique to itself emphasizing the fact that "it will become important for you to follow your own unique rhythms and flight.... When woodpecker comes into your life, it indicates that the foundation is there. It is now safe to follow your own rhythms."
I've always tried to do this, even when my life makes no sense to others but sometimes we get off track or in a comfortable routine. I know before when a woodpecker showed up, big changes happened after.
I am open to sparks of new creativity and/or opportunities that knock (doesn't mean I have to answer unless it's a 100% full body knowing yes! π€£)
I have always had a deep spiritual relationship with different birds. I know for others it may be insects, animals, or plants that speak the most to them. Which do you find you have a more spiritual connection with?
