Your presence matters...

"You stood in the rain for me, mom!"
I did. That's the truth. That's what my ten-year-old son saw as he climbed out of the bus today. He saw his mom, standing in the rain, waiting for him to return.

He didn't see all of it though.
He didn't see me watching the clock so I didn't miss his bus getting home.
He didn't see me folding his clothes and washing his sheets and remaking his bed.
He didn't see me paying bills and scheduling doctor's appointments.
He didn't see me emailing his teachers and tucking his homework into his file.
He didn't see me reading about the best way to help him with his spelling.
He didn't see me looking in the fridge and wondering about dinner.
He didn't see me washing the dishes and putting them back including the dish I found under his bed when I stripped the sheets.
He didn't see me worrying about him and his siblings.
He didn't see me walking back from school after dropping him off.
He didn't see the nights of no sleep or the times I'd check on him when his asthma flared up.
He didn't see the prayers prayed.
He didn't see the trips to the store to get groceries or the times I'd pick up his favorite thing.
He didn't see this pic taken on a morning when he just looked so chill.
He didn't see me count to ten all those times or set aside my busy to care about his busy.
He didn't see me working hard and answering emails and taking care of things so he wouldn't worry.
He didn't see all of that.

Instead, he saw me.

His mom.

Waiting there with a smile on her face, despite feeling frazzled and wet and rushed about and worrying about stuff and having still just as much to do as it felt like I started with.

He saw me.

Being there.

Our kids don't see all the stuff we do behind the scenes. They might never notice or care or say "thank you" but they do see us. When we show up, when we give, when we stand in the rain.

Thanks for that moms.

Thank you.

~Rachel

ps: this was written when he was ten and when our old bus stop wasn’t directly in front of our house…and now he’s sixteen and I still have stood in the rain for him.

Take heed and know the apps your children may be using... https://www.facebook.com/share/p/18N4xCS4AV/

At the Loudon County Sheriff's Office, we are dedicated to protecting our children and providing valuable information to parents, grandparents, extended family, and the public. As technology continues to evolve, so do the risks children face online. It’s crucial for caregivers to stay informed about the apps and platforms that may be accessible to their kids.

Attached is a comprehensive list of apps that parents should be aware of on their child’s devices. These apps can pose various risks, and understanding them is an essential step in ensuring your child's safety in the digital world.

If you have any concerns or questions regarding your child's online activity or the apps they are using, please don’t hesitate to reach out. You can contact Sgt. Detective Samantha Carver from the Loudon County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division at [email protected].

Together, we can make a difference in protecting the safety and well-being of our children.
