🍄 Something new is sprouting at Inside Out Science…
I have a prototype for a Mushroom Dissection Model that has been sitting on my desk for FOR-EVER (it's been there for over two years in this current state - what can I say? ).

The idea for this model is to let students explore mushroom anatomy either in lieu of dissection or as a pre-prep for the real thing. I'd absolutely❤️your input.
🍄 Would you use something like this in your classroom?
🍄 What would you want your students to be able to see/build/label?
🍄 Is there something you ALWAYS teach about fungi that absolutely needs to be included in the model or accompanying reading?

I’m planning anatomy, gills/pores/teeth, spores, reproduction, mycelium, how fungi get energy, and their role in ecosystems… throwing in the main types of mushroom species as well - tell me what else I’m missing! This is still very much a work in progress, so now is your chance to help shape it. ❤️🐸

Raise your hand if your students' eyes start glazing over the minute you say, "Today we're going to go over lab safety..." 🙋‍♀️😂
What if your first lab safety lesson looked more like an adventure than a lecture?
🥽 Students solve a mystery spill.
📄 Decode a real SDS.
🧪 Choose the right lab tools.
🚿 Hunt for safety equipment around your classroom.
🧹 Reset a messy lab.
🤝 "Interview" potential lab partners to decide who's actually safe to work with.
Instead of sitting through a slideshow, students rotate through 8 interactive stations that get them moving, collaborating, and thinking like real scientists.
✔️ 41 pages
✔️ Teacher guide with setup photos
✔️ Student Lab Safety Passport
✔️ Lab Safety Contract
✔️ Circular station rotation (multiple starting points - no traffic jams! No locks!)

By the end, your students won't just know the lab rules... they'll have practiced using them.
Because the best time to learn lab safety is before someone says, "Oops... I spilled it." 😅
What's your biggest challenge when teaching lab safety at the beginning of the year?

Nature is just so dang cool!

A mouse that lives higher than any other mammal has evolved unexpected adaptations that allow it to thrive from sea level to Andean summits, researchers report in a new Science study.

According to the findings, the Andean leaf-eared mouse uses a distinct combination of metabolic and genetic adaptations—including an unexpected ability to detoxify poisonous plants—to survive extreme environments.

🐸❤️ Planning a dissection or anatomy lab this year?
One of the biggest challenges isn't the lab itself - it's making sure students and families feel informed and prepared before you even open a specimen.
Grab this FREE lab prep pack and save yourself some planning time - just in time for the back to school season!

If you know another science teacher who has dissection or anatomy labs coming up this year, I'd love it if you'd share this with them! 🧪🐸

🐸❤️ NEW RESOURCE ALERT!
Ever finish an anatomy lesson and think...
"Well, that was fun... now what?"

What if your frog, shark, cat, pig, or other anatomy exploration could become the foundation for days of engaging science instruction?

Help your students connect their anatomy lessons to what they are learning in life science:
🧪 Scientific Method
🔬 Cells
❤️ Body Systems
🌳 Classification
🦴 Evolution
🧬 Genetics
🌎 Ecology

Each topic includes Create • Analyze • Apply activities that are differentiated and challenge students to think critically, solve real-world problems, and make meaningful connections across science curriculum.

Whether you use paper models, preserved specimens, or virtual dissections, these activities help you get so much more out of every anatomy lesson.

💚 Because anatomy is just the beginning.

🐸 So many specimens… so little time.

But let’s be real... sometimes the hardest part of dissection day isn’t the lab… it’s the emails 😅

Hey friends! I'm working on a human body model and I'd love to know what you think about the level of complexity as I create this. Should I make it smaller so that it takes up fewer sheets of paper to make it teacher-budget friendly, or should I make it large enough to make it toddler-sized with larger detail but more of a group project? Or somewhere in-between? Helpful input receives a special coupon code to use in my store! 🐸❤️
