🐸 So many specimens… so little time.
But let’s be real... sometimes the hardest part of dissection day isn’t the lab… it’s the emails 😅

Inside Out Science
Humane Dissection Alternatives for Eco-Friendly Explorers
Hey friends! I'm working on a human body model and I'd love to know what you think about the level of complexity as I create this. Should I make it smaller so that it takes up fewer sheets of paper to make it teacher-budget friendly, or should I make it large enough to make it toddler-sized with larger detail but more of a group project? Or somewhere in-between? Helpful input receives a special coupon code to use in my store! 🐸❤️

Looking for a hands-on way to teach the chick life cycle - without live egg hatching? 🐣When Animalearn reached out and asked me to make a chick life cycle model for the Hatching Kindness Project, I thought a lot about how I could make a model where students could connect with what's happening inside, but also connect with the hen who lays the eggs as well. It is a package deal, after all. 🐣🐓❤️
In this comprehensive differentiated lesson, elementary and middle school students can explore the process from the inside out as they:
..learn how eggs form inside the hen
..build and sequence all 21 days of chick development
and examine the structures that support life inside the egg.
They also learn about hen anatomy and how humans and chickens are related through vertebrate embryology. They even incubate their egg model in a paper nest! Add on an S.E.L. project called "What idea will you hatch?" and you've got a great unit for the spring. 🌷
It’s designed to be a hands-on, classroom-friendly, and humane alternative to egg hatching projects, while still giving students a meaningful, engaging experience.
See what's hatching here: https://insideoutscience.org/store/chick-life-cycle
What spring projects are you hatching in your classroom?
You know you’re a scientist when you get excited about p**p! I’ve never seen an owl pellet outside of a classroom… found this on my driveway this morning. Plot twist - that’s a bird wing in there! SO cool! Pretty sure this is a barred owl pellet. They’ve been hanging out in our neighborhood this year, hootin’ and a hollerin’ right at dusk each night. I’m currently working on my owl communication skills. I’m sure my neighbors love me… 🦉😂🤷♀️🐸❤️
Which came first… the egg or the chicken? 🥚🐣🐓
It looks like it happens overnight… but this transformation is doing a LOT behind the scenes... comma-shaped blob → baby chick really fast!
