THANK YOU FOR COMING TO OUR 50th REUNION!

We came, we laughed, we partied, we remembered. We renewed friendships forged half-a-century ago…. and created new memories to last us ā€˜til the next time we meet!

Whether you were at the Reunion in person or virtually, we are all part of this story, part of the celebration of who we were and who we’ve become. And while we celebrated, we carried in our hearts those classmates no longer with us - forever Tigers, remembered always.

§ THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS. We were thrilled to celebrate the Class of ’75 by keeping costs down … but …there were angels among us who contributed extra to make the numbers actually work. These star students include: Paul Quiros, Johnny Yopp, Keith Little, John Langford, David Hatch, Duke Sullivan. We are most grateful. You are forever anointed ā€œTigers Extraordinaire!ā€

§ THANK YOU TO OUR REUNION COMMITTEE. These are the people who raised their hands to work tirelessly and devotedly with the best humor and energy.. the reason our Reunion rocked and rolled! Cue the disco ball! One-million thank yous to:

Senour Reed, who kept the train on the track, revised at least thirty spreadsheets, kept us laughing with bad jokes and good humor, and without whom this Reunion would not have happened. There was no task too big or too small; it simply got done. Senour, we salute you!

Eric Chaney, whose energy to create this event is captured in the videos, the registration, the information, the photos, and the very website we depended on and will use going forward. https://www.eventcreate.com/e/northside-high-school-class Eric’s first words, always, are ā€œI’ll take care of it.ā€ Who does not want to hear that?

Susan Dortch Goodrich, whose experience in making magic happen is legion. How many times did she go the extra mile… by about 2000 miles? Design? Check. Teacher plaques? Check. Silly gift bags? Check. Solid advice? Check. Everything? Check.

Johnny Yopp, without whom we would have had no American Legion Post in which to make our new memories. We would have had no Tiger cups or souvenir Tiger mugs. Johnny has been our point person every single time, including generously sharing his own work staff to help take care of the business at hand.

Laura Chandler, the woman who sees through walls, around corners, behind her and far into the future. Tireless in site-surveying event space, making hotel suggestions for out-of-towners, asking the ā€œwhat ifs?", sharing ideas and creating the beautiful table designs that unified the look and feel of the Reunion.

David Hatch, who literally held us together financially with sticks, gum, play-doh, and thoughtfulness. Quietly working behind the scenes to examine, communicate, outreach, make the numbers talk, and ensure everyone knew what they needed to know. David figures out how to make things happen.

Debbie Benjamin, who has never met a challenge she didn’t embrace with a sweet smile and a spine of steel. Her next question is always ā€œwhat can I do?ā€ She is calm in a storm. The delicious food from Ippolito’s on Saturday is her doing, along with…

Raynard Oliver, who continues to keep us on our toes with the warmest of smiles - going out of his way to make everything work that he touches, starting with our delicious dinner on Saturday!

Duke Sullivan, who is the ultimate thumb-on-the-scale guy – asking the questions to make things make sense and elegantly sharing his understanding of how to make things work out.

Billy Miller, whose remarkable energy as our historian and cheerleader has come to us through Facebook, montages, collages, banners, disco balls, storytelling. Billy makes things better by his presence.

Anthony Pace, who shows up with wisdom and thoughtfulness every time. His carry-through is detailed and thoughtful and precise, including the lanyards and accurate name tags, not an easy feat. Still waters run deep.

Betsy Kulman, who in 1975 ran for co-President of our Senior Class and never dreamed this would still be the job five decades later … and absolutely wouldn’t have it any other way. There is truly nothing more inspiring than witnessing just how deeply we still matter to each other.

§ Some of you have asked to be involved as Committee members in future. Thank you for that and hold onto your Tiger hats. It’s a wild ride. We’ll be calling you!

§ There are many ways to stay in touch! Reach out on our private page: NHS Class of 1975 50th Reunion | Facebook and on our private gmail account: [email protected]

§ Photos from our Reunion weekend will be posted on our Class of '75 website: https://www.eventcreate.com/e/northside-high-school-class

§ Please continue to share your memories of yesterday and today! Send your stories to [email protected] and we’ll post it on the Class website.

§ Going forward, by popular demand, we will be getting together sooner than 2035! Perhaps once or twice a year, we’ll send out a post to meet – maybe at our new favorite bar, Whitehall Tavern, for a drink or a bite – and whoever can come, come! Keep an eye out for emails and on our page!

We are STILL part of something much bigger than ourselves. We are STILL the Class of ’75 and we STILL don’t take no jive!! Cha-Cha-Chabooga!

ROLL CALL!

Pickens County…A view of the Tate House under construction from 1921 through 1926. The home was the grand vision of Sam Tate, son of Georgia Marble Company founder Stephen Tate. Designed in the Second Renaissance Revival (a form of Neo-Classical) style by the Cincinnati firm Walker and Weeks, this two-story mansion is crafted from rare Etowah pink marble—locally quarried and celebrated for its beauty and quality. Some even call it the "Pink Marble Mansion" or simply the "Pink Palace."

The Tate family acquired the land in 1834, and by the late 19th century, Stephen Tate had established the Georgia Marble Company, growing Pickens County into a center for marble production. The same quarries that fueled this boom provided material not just for the Tate House, but also for iconic works like the Lincoln Memorial, the Corcoran Museum, and several buildings at Emory University.

However, after Samuel Tate’s death in 1938, the mansion fell into neglect and was unoccupied after 1955, awaiting rescue and restoration. The mansion was rescued in 1974 when purchased by Ann Shattuck of Arizona and her then-husband, Columbus Southerland. Over the next decade, they restored the property, reopening it to the public around 1985.

In 2001, Holbrook Properties, LP acquired the estate, and under Lois Holbrook and Marsha Mann, further restorations were undertaken. Today, the Tate House is celebrated as an elegant wedding and special events venue, surrounded by lush gardens, centuries-old trees, flowing fountains, and exquisite interior features—including mural wallpapers, parquet marble floors, and period lighting.
