On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that enslaved people were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed by President Abraham Lincoln. That day became known as Juneteenth, now a Federal holiday and one of the most significant dates in United States history.
For educators, Juneteenth is an invitation to teach the full, unvarnished story of the US and to explore why the gap between proclamation and reality matters. Today we honor the resilience of Black Americans and the teachers who ensure this history is never forgotten.

LGBTQ+ Pride Month is celebrated around the world in the month of June to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall Uprising. On June 28, 1969, New York City Police raided a popular gay bar in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Lower Manhattan, The Stonewall Inn. Fed up with police harassment, bar patrons fought back and clashes continued for 6 days. This prolonged confrontation is seen by historians as the culmination of years of LGBTQ+ activism, and widely acknowledged as a major tipping point in the US' Gay Liberation Movement. Major cities across the nation organically began to observe a day in June. Ad-hoc one-day celebrations soon grew to encompass month-long series of events and, later, national observations and recognition. Today, Pride celebrations around the world include parades, picnics, parties, workshops, symposia, and concerts in many cities, not always in June. Memorials for those members of the community who have been lost to hate crimes or HIV/AIDS are also part of Pride Month worldwide observances. CASIE is proud to celebrate and affirm PRIDE during the month June and year-round!

Today is World Environment Day, and there is no better place to explore sustainability than inside an IB classroom. Whether through the PYP's transdisciplinary inquiries, MYP's global contexts, or DP's Theory of Knowledge, IB educators are raising the next generation of environmental stewards.

Happy International Children's Day! Children’s Day originated in 1925, after representatives from different countries met for the first “World Conference for the Wellbeing of Children” to promote children’s rights and spread awareness about children’s safety and protection. Today, many countries around the world continue to advocate for children’s rights on Children’s Day. Today we celebrate the curiosity, creativity, and potential of learners around the world. Thank you, educators, for everything you do to help them shine. 🌟

Meet Lanie, the "hard-living" North Georgia runaway who decided the city life was much more her speed. Suzanne Macpherson, CASIE’s Senior Events Manager, originally took her in as a foster through Angels Among Us, but it didn't take long for Lanie to become a permanent member of the family. Since she was Suzanne's first "foster fail," there’s now a standing rule against fostering for fear the house might get a bit too crowded! Lanie is known for being goofy, sweet, and the undisputed champion of snuggling.
