Two students in our Master of Education in higher education leadership program have been selected for leadership positions with the Georgia College Personnel Association. Morgan Goeckel was chosen as director of communication and Erin Smith as conference chair-elect for 2025-26.
"These are important entry-level roles that can lead to bigger and better things for them in the future," said Dr. Jim Vander Putten, associate professor of higher education in the Tift College of Education.

Two Mercer University staff members have been recognized for their outstanding service to the University.
Michelle Beavers, campus services coordinator for the Physical Plant, and Denise Elam, director of field placement for the Tift College of Education, were awarded the Mercer Spirit Award for Macon and Atlanta, respectively.
The annual award, given at retirement and recognition ceremonies on each campus in April, recognizes hardworking staff members nominated by their peers for excellent service to Mercer and beyond.

Roberts Academy at Mercer University is launching its Speaker Series with Malcolm Mitchell on Tuesday, Jan. 23, from 5:45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., in the Presidents Dining Room in the University Center on the Macon campus. “Overcoming Reading Challenges – Stories of Success” is a free program presented by Roberts Academy, a transitional school for children with dyslexia.

Construction is underway on a transitional school for children with dyslexia that is adjacent to Mercer’s Macon campus. Roberts Academy at Mercer University, which was announced last November, is being constructed, equipped and endowed through a major gift commitment by Hal and Marjorie Roberts of Lakeland, Florida. The Academy will be affiliated with Mercer’s Tift College of Education and will be the only school of its kind in Georgia outside of Atlanta.
