The Coalition for the People’s Agenda works to improve the quality of governance in Georgia, creating a more informed and active electorate and having responsive and accountable elected officials. Their mission is best served by an informed an concerned electorate. To this end, they have put into place a Citizenship Education program with students and adults alike. This program is designed to empo

wer the overall electorate and is made available to anyone desirous of making a positive difference for our future. Their Voter Registration program emphasizes education throughout the state and is comprised of campaigns, town hall meetings and evaluation sheets to help mobilize voters across the state of Georgia. The criminal justice system in Georgia has become so egregiously unjust that the Peoples' Agenda finds it necessary to address a breadth of areas of criminal justice policy in Georgia and to call for several critical changes. Across the state, far too many people are over-charged by Georgia's district attorneys, under-represented by Georgia's courts, over-incarcerated in Georgia's prisons and jails, and under-served by the institutions charged with their care. The Coalition for the Peoples' Agenda has identified seven (7) major criminal justice policy areas which require immediate attention including the right to counsel, aftercare alternative sentencing,(mis)treatment of prisoners, death penalty moratorium, juvenile justice prevention and education. The Coalition of the Peoples' Agenda views education improvements as one of its major priorities because it provides the foundation for building a better quality of life for future generations. To create a healthy environment for students to learn, we have focused our efforts on the following: funding for parent classes and parent centers,increasing early intervention programs, revising zero tolerance policy, more technology training for teachers, greater collaboration among parents, schools, business and neighborhood communities, elimination of disparity in tracking and education reform and equity. The Environmental Justice Committee works to highlight and address environmental concerns impacting the quality of life in Georgia. This disproportionate impact and citing of environmental hazards in and near communities of color is well documented. This pattern persists and we work with local communities to help ensure enforcement of environmental regulations protective of human heath and the environment. The coalition has been active on air quality, water and waste issues. Committee members work closely with Georgia environmental organizations helping to ensure a focus on environmental justice.
