It’s the Finals Stretch 🧘🏽

The Diversity & Inclusion Student Interest Group (DISIG) invites you to join them this Monday for the Finals Stretch, a self-care event featuring a guided mindfulness meditation session led by Kalden Gyatso, Buddhist monk, followed by a stretching and yoga session led by Abby Yang , DISIG First-Year Liaison.

Healthy snacks, water bottles, and "Finals Survival Self-Care Kits" will be provided. Please BYOM (Bring Your Own Mat) for the stretching and yoga session.

Additionally, the DISIG encourages you to participate in Casual Monday on 12/4; dress comfortably in your favorite athleisure or athletic wear! 👟

Meet Abby! 🧡

Abby is from Atlanta, GA and graduated from Emory University with her BA in Psychology and a minor in religion in 2022. Abby is interested in exploring the intersections of Eastern philosophies and Western practices/interventions (such as Mindfulness) as well as the creativity-psychosis link. She is a lover of all things music and dance and conducted a musical, plays flute and piano, and enjoys dancing Zouk and Tango. She's also a big fan of Lord of the Rings and good books and movies in general. Abby also enjoys napping when she shouldn't.

Meet Josh! 🧡

Josh is from Atlanta, GA. He received his undergraduate degree in psychology from Georgia State University. Before entering Mercer University's clinical psychology program, he worked first as a paralegal and then within an IT department in a school setting. Josh is interested in working with diverse populations, including sexual minorities and paraphiliacs, among other, broader populations. He is further interested in the prevention of child sexual abuse and believes that therapeutic services can play a key role. Fun fact: Josh has been an improv comic for 10 years, regularly performing in front of audiences. He originally started taking classes and performing to conquer his social anxiety. Considering how well it worked for him, he would like to study its use as a therapeutic tool.

Meet Chloe! 🧡

Chloe was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. She received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Calgary in 2021. Chloe then completed her Master of Science in Psychology at the University of Louisiana Monroe. She is interested in pediatric psychopathology and working with populations with adverse childhood experiences. Outside of school, Chloe worked as a dance teacher for many years. Fun fact: Chloe was a competitive dancer herself and has traveled all over North America to perform!

Meet Kayla! 🧡

Kayla is from Parkland, Fl and moved to Newnan, GA this past year. She received her undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Georgia. She graduated in December of 2022 and worked as a preschool teacher before starting classes at Mercer. Kayla is interested in developing interventions in communities where children and adolescents are at a high risk of facing trauma and is particularly interested in working with children in the foster care system. Fun fact: Kayla has always loved to run and is training to do her first half marathon right now!

Meet Madison! 🧡

Madison is from Johnsonville, SC. She received her Bachelor of Science in psychology from Wofford College in 2021. She received her Master of Social Work degree from the University of South Carolina in 2023. Madison’s clinical and research interests surround psychopathology of children and adolescents who have endured adverse childhood experiences. Fun fact: Madison was a college cheerleader!

Savannah is from Atlanta, Georgia. She graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in May with a BA in Psychology. Savannah’s clinical and research interests include eating disorders, developmental psychopathology, psychological assessment, and substance use. Fun fact: Savannah loves to run long distances!

Meet Bri! 🧡

Bri was born and raised in Columbia, Connecticut. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Eastern Connecticut State University as well as her Master of Arts in Psychology and a Graduate Certificate in Gerontology from Central Connecticut State University. Bri’s interests are primarily in working with and helping older adults manage and/or prevent the onset of chronic health diseases (e.g., cancer, cardiovascular diseases) by employing behavioral approaches to disease management such as stress management techniques, mindfulness, biofeedback, etc. She is also interested in researching how prevalent ageist beliefs are in health care workers and the kind of impact this can have on older adults’ recovery process. Fun fact: Bri was a collegiate level pole vaulter!

Meet Kiana! 🧡

Kiana is from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. She received her undergraduate degree from Moravian University in May of 2023. Kiana is interested in looking at adverse childhood experiences in youth, immigrant mental health and trauma post-migration, and the development of eating disorders in children and adolescents. Fun fact: Kiana has gone island hopping in Greece and The Galápagos Islands!
