Watch Hannah Arendt - Facing Tyranny in German with English subtitles. Screening includes Goethe-Zentrum Atlanta interview with film maker Jeff Bieber, guided discussion, and further reading recommendations.

How does a society descend into authoritarianism—and what responsibilities do individuals bear when democracy is under threat? Hannah Arendt: Facing Tyranny explores the life and enduring legacy of one of the twentieth century's most influential political thinkers. Through archival materials, expert commentary, and reflections on her groundbreaking work, the documentary examines Arendt's experiences as a German Jewish refugee who fled N**i Germany and went on to reshape our understanding of totalitarianism, freedom, responsibility, and the human condition.

Today, we celebrate Switzerland's National Day, commemorating the founding of the Swiss Confederation in 1291.

While Switzerland is home to four national languages—German, French, Italian, and Romansh - more than 60% of the population speaks German, making Swiss German an important part of the rich and diverse German-speaking world.

At Goethe-Zentrum Atlanta, we celebrate the language, literature, history, and cultures shared across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland - each with its own unique traditions, regional identities, and perspectives. Together, they remind us that language is more than words; it is a bridge connecting people, cultures, and ideas across borders. Watch out for our upcoming week in September!

To our Swiss friends, students, instructors, and community members, we wish you a wonderful celebration.

Alles Gute zum Schweizer Bundesfeiertag!
