Growing up in New Delhi, I used to play soccer with the son of a dalit, the “untouchable” caste. One day, my mother called me over to share with me, “people have been whispering how inappropriate it is for an ambassador’s daughter to play with a dalit”.

People often seek out Muslims for Progressive Values to help in their researches whether for a thesis or a book. Here's another one I'm sharing. I hope you can help and contribute:
Calling all LGBTQ+ folk! I am a student at CUNY School of Professional Studies, and I am researching about the LGBTQ+ coming out experience and how parental relationships influence this experience. Did you come out to your parents/guardians? When did you come out to your parents/guardians? This research project intends to highlight the importance of why positive parental/caregiver relationships in childhood are important to the well-being of LGBTQ+ individuals. Please consider completing the survey linked below which will compare your responses of your parental relationships and your coming out experiences. The survey will only take about 40 minutes of your time and will be beneficial towards supporting the LGBTQ+ community and creating a brighter future.
Your participation is voluntary, and your identity will remain anonymous as no identifying information is collected. This study aims to have at least 100 responses with a diverse representation of life experiences. I hope that you will consider taking this survey. If you have any questions, please reach out to Joseph (Joe) Mueller ([email protected]).

September 14: Muslims for Progressive Values is organizing a forum at Rayburn, Capital Hill, Washington DC, "Addressing Apostasy and Blasphemy Laws in Muslim Societies". Please join us in person or virtually. A light breakfast will be served. To register: https://bit.ly/3xMnzlX
Description: The practice of criminalizing the religious beliefs of others through apostasy and blasphemy legislation violates the fundamental teachings of Islam as well as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which enshrines the right to freedom of religion, belief, and thought to all individuals. Clearly, this issue is transnational as we've witnessed in the stabbing of Salman Rushdie. While he is one of the more prominent victims, there are many more unnamed victims. The two-hour forum will begin with an introduction to social, historical and religious contexts of apostasy and blasphemy laws in Muslim Societies. It will be followed by an interactive workshop with tools to delink these harsh laws from Islam, inculcating a culture of human rights, and overcoming hateful social media campaigns directed at human rights advocates.

On November 1, join our affiliate partner Inclusive Islam Curriculum's launch. The Inclusive Islam Curriculum rooted in Human Rights for children ages 4-7 covers most of the Sustainable Development Goals, indicators 5 and 4.7: whereby all learners acquire the skills and knowledge needed to help build cultures of peace, appreciation of religious or belief diversity and a sense of global citizenship". We cover Prophet Muhammad as a feminist, as an anti-racist, and even his appointment of Umm Waraqah as a female imam. But the most important aspect of the curriculum is that we use the Whole Child Development philosophy. Check out our FB page: https://www.facebook.com/Inclusive-Islam-Curriculum-104572905072397

"Racism is not just an individualized problem; therefore, its solution cannot be limited to the individual level. As an ummah, we need to approach our cultures with a critical lens and strengthen them by removing toxic attitudes and practices (like racism). This change needs to happen at home, as well as at the communal level; and this is precisely where MuslimARC steps in. The education-oriented programming and tools provided by MuslimARC make anti-racism work feasible and widely accessible– and that is a (small) revolution that we can all partake in."https://members.muslimarc.org/
