It's our 17th birthday! Because MPV is progressive, we don't get funding from traditional Muslim foundations, and most secular foundations shun anything with "Muslim", we therefore rely on our supporters to carry the oversized weight on our backs.
Muslims for Progressive Values-Atlanta
MPV establishes vibrant communities, is a progressive Muslim voice and promotes Islamic liberalism. We also host several, special events throughout the year.
Muslims for Progressive Values’ (MPV) mission is to embody and be an effective voice of the traditional Quranic ideals of human dignity, egalitarianism, compassion and social justice. We are located in Atlanta, Georgia, United States of America. Friday prayers are done through Skype in partnership with El-Tawhid Juma Circle. Zikr is offered each Sunday in partnership with Sufi Atlanta. We follow t

June was a very busy month for MPV and its chapters. We are super excited about the relaunching of MPV-Chicago, and the musical event the Muslim Musical Mosaic Project. Read the newsletter for updates and upcoming events for July!
Our political dissent against America’s complicit in the human rights violations in Gaza and West Bank is being curtailed by the bill H.R.6408 and S.4136 requiring the IRS to strip non-profits of their status if deemed to be supporting "terrorism".
For many years now I have been wanting to create a celebrative musical event, something that reflects our progressive and inclusive values, and something that can be produced as an Eid event. The first step of the Mosaic Project has arrived!
PAY ATTENTION EVERYONE. The House passed this bill H.R.6408 basically allowing the banning of non-profits who speak up for Palestinian causes. It has now gone through to the Senate S.4136 - A bill to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to terminate the tax-exempt status of terrorist supporting organizations. Just so you know it is already illigal to support terrorists orgs. Just so you know what this is REALLY about, watch who's speaking at the Ways&Means committe hearing. You get the picture. It is alarming how this was not reported in the media at all. Please share!

A video greeting for Happy Eid.
Lu Fuki: "Often the Black American voice is left out in the conversation regarding Muslim traditions in the United States and and I applaud MPV for using this project to highlight the significant contributions of Black American Muslim jazz musicians."
I see a group of protestors carrying a long paper block with the names of innocent humans killed in less than 30 days. I shed a tear. Seconds later, I find myself sobbing and a shiver passes through my body as if someone is pouring my blood out.
As we approach International Day of Zero Tolerance for FGM, I have been reflecting on an experimental research we funded two years ago with a small group of men in Kenya to ask the question, “Do you prefer be intimate with a cut or uncut woman?”
Who Cares About FGM, Right? Who Cares About FGM, Right?
So instead of asking me, “Do you condemn Hamas?”, ask yourself, “What can I do to bring peace, not just for myself but for my neighbor too”.
