Dear Fickett Elementary School Community,

It is with a heavy heart that I write to you today to share some devastating news. This past Saturday, one of our third-grade students, Maryah Johnson, died tragically in a car accident caused by a drunk driver.

Maryah was a true light within our school, and she was loved by all of our students. Today, after speaking with her peers, the one thing that resonated with every single one of them was her kindness and how wonderful of a person she was. They are truly devastated by the loss of their friend. We have called in grief counselors to support our students and the adults in our building during this difficult time.

We have since spoken to Maryah's mom, who is in need of our support. This sudden and tragic loss has left her with a significant financial burden. A GoFundMe has been created to help the family during this time. If you feel in your heart to support them in any way, please locate the link below.

I thank you all so much. This is truly a hard one, as they all are. My prayers are with the family and our students during this tragic time.

Hey Fickett families! 🍝👟 Join us for our annual "Spaghetti and Sneakers" Title I and Data meeting on September 3rd from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM in the Fickett Elementary cafeteria.
This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about our school's goals for the year, discuss student progress, and discover how you can be more involved in your child's education and our school community. We'll have a casual dinner and a great conversation.
We are so excited to announce that Representative Derrick Jackson, who is running for Governor, will be our special guest speaker. We look forward to hearing his message and his support for our students and schools.
