: πβ¨ In December, fifth graders in Spanish class explored the rich history and culture of Puerto Rico!
They learned about the TaΓno gods and goddesses, exploring how the TaΓno were the original inhabitants of Puerto Rico. They also learned about the impact of Spanish colonization and the arrival of West Africans to Puerto Rico, which shaped the island's culture.
Focusing on LoΓza, a city in Puerto Rico known for its strong Afro-Puerto Rican heritage, the students discovered how the city's traditions, such as bomba dancing and the accompanying plena music, have played a significant role in shaping Afro-Latino identity in Puerto Rico. πΆπ΅π·
