Princess Pi was hungry this morning!
My name is Sarah, and I'm also known as "Science Sarah" to my 100+ early childhood students. For 15 years, I've taught science in formal and informal settings.

July 26, 2020. I was working in the kitchen, and I noticed this little friend hunting on my back porch. Could this be one of the progeny I released in early May? I sure hope so!!! π»

Yay! π₯³
Lots & lots of baby praying mantises joined the family today!
For about 6 weeks, Weβve been patiently waiting for our egg sack (ootheca) to produce nymphs (baby mantises). We didnβt keep any nymphs to observe indoors, but we safely released all of our new hatchlings into the garden where they can eat all of the soft-bodies insects (like aphids or small flies) and grow into strong adults.

π If you canβt make it into the woods for a long hike, try taking a 1-foot hike in your own yard! Youβll be amazed at what your little naturalist will discover.

Take a One-Foot Hike If you want to try something different from your normal outdoor activity routine, then I suggest taking a 1-foot hike! Typically, an outdoor adventure or hike involves processing the world on a macro scale, but a1-foot hike focuses on the diversity of life and natural objects in a small, 1-foot squa...
