Congratulations to Cassandra Quave for receiving the EmpoHER Award during the Office of Technology Transfer’s 17th Annual Celebration of Technology and Innovation which was held on March 23rd!

School of Medicine faculty members Anant Madabhushi (biomedical engineering), Cassandra Quave (dermatology) and David Prologo (radiology and imaging sciences) are recipients of this year's Emory Office of Technology Transfer's Corporate Partnership of the Year, EmpoHER and Start-Up of the Year awards, respectively.

Madabhushi's Corporate Partnership of the Year award recognizes his partnership with Bristol Myers Squibb to develop algorithms that leverage both radiology and pathology data to predict which lung cancer patients are likely to respond to immunotherapy.

Quave's EmpoHER award highlights a suite of patents with technology to create new solutions to debilitating skin diseases by reducing the ability of the microbes to cause harm to the host tissues.

We are pleased to announce a scholarship for medical students from groups Underrepresented in Medicine (URiM), as defined by the Association of American Medical Colleges who are participating in the 4-week Emory Dermatology (D01) Elective rotation during the summer/fall 2023 semester.

It was recently Alumni Day at Dermatology Grand Rounds! It was an honor to welcome back Michael Sargen, MD (Resident Class of 2017) - His presentation was titled, "Integrating Genetic and Epidemiologic Data to Understand the Etiology of Skin Cancer." Dr. Sargen is currently an Assistant Clinical Investigator at the National Cancer Institute/National Institutes of Health: Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics.

Congratulations to Cassandra Quave, PhD for recently being appointed the Thomas J. Lawley Professor in Dermatology!

Dr. Quave is Curator of the Herbarium and Associate Professor of Dermatology and Human Health at Emory University, where she leads anti-infective drug discovery research initiatives and teaches courses on medicinal plants, microbiology, and pharmacology. The Thomas J. Lawley, MD Professorship was established in 2012 to honor Dr. Lawley for his years of service and leadership as the former Chair of Dermatology and for his 16 years of service as Dean of the Emory University School of Medicine.

Following yesterday's virtual Grand Rounds, a surprise farewell celebration was held for Dr. Jack Arbiser who, after close to 25 years, will be leaving the Department of Dermatology and Emory University to enter into private practice.

Jeff Bubley (3rd year resident and former member of the Arbiser Lab) and Dr. Swerlick hosted this event with a video presentation full of memories and well wishes given by past members of the Arbiser Research Lab.

In addition to staff, faculty, and residents, Dr. Arbiser's wife, Zoya, many alumni, and past dermatology members joined to participate in this celebration of Dr. Arbiser's time at Emory.
