What qualifies a child for a 504 Plan?
A student is eligible for a 504 plan if they have any disability that limits daily life activities - like walking, seeing, breathing, hearing or speaking.
This includes those who have been diagnosed with ADHD, Autism, Diabetes, Epilepsy, Asthma, hearing or vision impairment, chronic asthma or allergies, and even mental health conditions like anxiety or depression.
504 Plans contain accommodations that change how a child receives instruction but it doesn’t change what they learn. If you think your child needs additional support through a 504 plan, you can request that your school evaluate them.
If you’re not sure where to start, we’re here to support you! Reach out to us today via message or email at [email protected], and a member of our Atlanta Thrive team will reach out to help you!

Are you the parent of an APS student with an IEP or 504 plan? Do you feel like your student is getting the support they need to succeed?
In APS, 22% of students who have IEPs drop out of high school. As parents, we have the power to advocate for our children so that they have a chance to succeed academically.
We need your voice. We’re demanding that APS conduct an audit of all IEPs across the system, and that they invest more into training educators so that they can help create safe spaces in their classrooms for students with special needs. If you stand with us - DM us or email us at [email protected] to become a part of our movement of powerful parents!

What’s the purpose of an IEP? Does your child need one?
An IEP is an Individualized Education Program. It lays out the way students with special needs should receive education and support in their classrooms.
If your child is struggling in school - you can and should request testing from their campus to find out what additional support your child may need to be successful.
Not sure what to say, or how to ask? The Atlanta Thrive team is here to support you. Reach out to us today via DM, or email at [email protected], and a member of our team will walk side by side with you.

Wondering how to keep your students focused during winter break? Try these tips:
1) Set a daily routine - this helps keep your child reduce stress and minimize challenges.
2) Partner with your child’s teachers - Understanding your child’s IEP is important so take the time to review it and discuss it with the teacher. Create a partnership that bridges the gap between home and school, and ask about ways you can actively support your child’s education beyond the classroom.
Need more support? Reach out to Atlanta Thrive by sending us a DM or emailing us at [email protected]. Let’s make learning fun this break!

Did you know? Almost 22% of students who have IEPs in APS drop out, and never graduate. Our children deserve a real chance to get a great education, especially those who have learning differences.
All we want for Christmas this year is what APS promised us - a seat at the table to discuss important changes to our children’s educational future. Parents are the subject matter experts on their children. APS leaders should be partnering with us to make a change. Ready to join the fight? Sign the petition today.
