We are committed to decreasing the incidence of violence against women.

Our foci include sexual violence perpetration prevention, child sexual abuse prevention, policy and advocacy related to violence against women, and measurement development. The Violence Against Women Prevention Lab is a research laboratory at Georgia State University, situated within the Department of Psychology. Directed by Dr. Sarah Cook and Dr. Kevin Swartout, the lab currently includes nine doctoral graduate students and six undergraduate research assistants.

"Victims’ rights and women’s rights groups sued Education Secretary Betsy DeVos on Thursday, saying that rules that she issued last year to guide campuses on how to manage sexual assault complaints violated federal law and discriminated against accusers."

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos Is Sued Over S*xual Assault Guidance Three organizations filed a complaint outlining ways that new sexual assault guidelines had had a “chilling effect” on campus sexual assault investigations.

Last week we took our undergrad research assistants to lobby at the Capitol. Unfortunately, many harmful bills passed the house, but I truly couldn't be more proud of them! They went toe to toe with their local lawmakers and stood up for what they believe. Next week, we'll pick up where we left off and continue advocating for student rights and safety in the Senate!
