The closure of our dear school had left every Lynx in a state of shock, grieving not just a school, but a place that has meant so much to so many. And yet, in the midst of that heartbreak, something remarkable unfolded within our walls.
Our faculty and staff, true to who they are, have chosen joy.
In these final days, they have wrapped our students in creativity, connection, and love.
Karaoke singalongs.
A student art gallery.
Student artists market.
Elementary and middle school theater performances.
Themed dress days, pajama day, outdoor water painting, trivia games, friendship bracelets, and visits from inspiring guests like stunt actor David Samonte.
Some students even tried to find the school time capsule. Rumor has it that it might be in the ceiling of the school!
And on our final afternoon together, the entire community gathered on the back field– students, alumni, families, faculty, and staff– simply to play and connect one more time.
This is who we are.
MIS has never been just a building, a schedule, or a curriculum. It is a feeling. A community built on curiosity, connection, and care. It lives in the way our teachers see each child and in how they help students see themselves as thinkers, creators, and problem-solvers. It lives in the relationships we build and the way we show up for one another, especially when it matters most.
Wherever our students, faculty, and staff go next, they will carry MIS with them in their confidence, their kindness, their curiosity, and their courage to ask questions, take risks, and build meaningful connections.
Once a Lynx, always a Lynx. 🐾

MIS 5th graders recently completed the “CPR in Schools Program,” earning their certificates of completion and gaining essential lifesaving skills.
Through this hands-on experience, students learned how to perform CPR, use an AED, and respond to choking emergencies while building confidence to act in critical moments.
Thank you to our wellness coordinator, Ms. Maeretha Smith, for continuing this program for the sixth year at MIS!

An unforgettable journey in Guatemala this March 🇬🇹
Based in San Pedro on Lake Atitlán, MIS students lived with a local host family, shared meals, and took daily Spanish lessons while immersing themselves in the language and culture.
They explored Mayan traditions like weaving and chocolate-making, supported a local women’s cooperative, volunteered with students during English class, and adventured through nearby pueblos culminating in a sunrise hike up La Nariz de Indio.
It was a powerful experience of connection, culture, and discovery!

In Ms. Rowley’s DIY middle school elective, students created their own mini book nooks- detailed miniature dioramas designed to sit between books on a shelf. Each one becomes a tiny “secret world” or magical space tucked between novels. It was a fun way for students to showcase their creativity, personality, and design/engineering skills!

🪘 🎶 🩺 Dr. Cyril Ojilere, a Nigerian-American, visited Ms. Vialet’s elementary music classes for Black History Month to teach students how music is integral in detecting the health of a heart. Students were able to play to the rhythm of a healthy heart, and were able to listen to the rhythm of their own heart beat!

Things are getting pretty funny in the after school club, Creative Writing! Students wrote comedy scripts, and are now recording their lines and making animations to go with their stories. Bravo to our budding writers and visual storytellers!
