Flashback Friday: weekend kicked off with the launch of Women Mobilizing for Morehouse, led by First Lady Cynthia Bowman and founding chair Adrienne Willis under the mantra, "Her investment, His future. Our legacy."
In the spirit of celebrating women who have championed Morehouse, the gathering welcomed revered philanthropist and trustee emerita Billye Aaron and former Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin for a conversation alongside First Lady Cynthia Bowman and President F. DuBois Bowman as a part of the new "Principled Leadership in Action" presidential speaker series.
The evening also honored the incomparable Dr. Anne Watts, affectionately known as “ The Mother of Morehouse.” Her son Michael Watts '92 accepted the award on Dr. Watts behalf, while Dr. Leah Creque recognized her decades of foundational contributions to many of Morehouse's most highly regarded traditions that define the "Morehouse Experience" that the College is renowned for today, in addition to the generations of Morehouse Men influenced by her leadership.
The event culminated in the announcement that the Women Mobilizing for Morehouse initiative had successfully raised over $450,000 in its first 6 months of activity, and the ladies are just getting started! Follow on Instagram to stay up to date on the journey and the ongoing celebration of the women who make Morehouse the institution we know and love today, while helping shape its future for another 160 years.
