The school offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in nursing including entry level Bachelor of Science degree through Doctor of Philosophy degrees. Bachelor of Science degree tracks include:
- Traditional with a major in nursing
- Accelerated track with a major in nursing (ACE)
- Transfer track (for those currently enrolled in another B.S. nursing program)
- RN to BS bridge program (now online!

Master of Science degree options include:
- Traditional degree with the following specialties:
- Adult Health
- Child Health
- Family Nurse Practitioner
- Nursing Leadership and Innovations
- Perinatal Women's Health

It is a pleasure to congratulate PhD student Jovon E. Caldwell, MSN-ED, RN, APRN, PMHNP-BC for successfully defending her dissertation last month. The findings of her qualitative study will add to our limited understanding of the experiences of young adult African American men who have been abused as children, yet abstain from substance abuse. We look forward to seeing the contributions this work makes to programs designed to help this population, which remains at high risk for adverse outcomes. We are grateful to the Jonas Nursing and Veterans Healthcare Program and the SAMHSA Minority Fellowship Program for supporting Dr. Caldwell's doctoral journey.

Congratulations to the Spring 2026 Nursing PhD program graduates - Dr. Bethany Blevins, Dr. Olajide Opaleye, and Dr. Alexa Thompson. We also congratulate the first graduate of the PhD in Health Sciences program at GSU, Dr. Marci Bennafield. Yesterday's Commencement Speaker, Dr. Collins O. Airhihenbuwa encouraged them to PHD - Prepare, Hope, and Dare. They are ready and we wish them well!

Congratulations to Olajide A. Opaleye, MIT, MSN, PMHNP-BC for successfully defending his dissertation last week, entitled, "Examining African American Church Teacher's Perspectives on Children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder-Like Behavior." In a sample of 84 church teachers, he found their knowledge supported ADHD-like behavior recognition, while their subjective norms and perceived behavioral control influenced their intentions to engage in referral communication with parents. Dr. Opaleye's innovative study methods and findings will provide guidance for how faith-based settings can become meaningful partners in identifying ADHD in children. Congratulations to Alexa D. Thompson, MSN, APRN, CPNP-PC for successfully defending her dissertation last week, entitled, "HPV Vaccine Knowledge, Motivation, and Behavioral Skills in Pediatric Nurse Practitioners Providing Adolescent Care." She completed a three-manuscript dissertation which includes a published health policy paper on adolescent self-consent for the HPV vaccine https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0891524524001809, a qualitative literature review of parental HPV vaccine hesitancy, and findings from her quantitative study on HPV vaccine knowledge, motivation, and behavioral skills in pediatric nurse practitioners. Her work provides insightful evidence to support improved HPV vaccine uptake for the prevention of HPV-related cancers.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Bethany Blevins for successfully defending her three-manuscript dissertation last week. The dissertation included findings from her descriptive phenomenology study titled, "Exploring the Lived Experiences and Vulnerabilities of Travel Nurses." She also recently published, "Should Travel Nurses Be Considered a Vulnerable Population," in Nurse Leader https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1541461226000753. Dr. Blevins' work will help to improve the work environments and well-being of current and future travel nurses.
