Pop quiz: WHY do we eat dairy on Shavuot? ๐Ÿง€๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿฅž

Shavuot is one of those holidays that's genuinely fun to teach. When the Jewish people received the Torah at Mount Sinai, they suddenly had a whole new set of rules, including the laws of keeping kosher.

But their pots and pans werenโ€™t kosher yet. So what did they eat? Dairy! Simple, delicious, no-prep-needed dairy.

There are other reasons, too: the Torah is compared to milk and honey, nourishing and sweet. The gematria of the word "chalav" (milk) adds up to 40, the same number of days Moses spent on Mount Sinai. Jewish tradition loves a good layered answer, and Shavuot delivers.

Chag Sameach from our JKG family to yours! May your Shavuot be sweet, cheesy, and full of meaning. ๐Ÿ’›

Israeli salad, burekas, limonana, and a whole lot of simcha! ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ’™

Afternoon Community students are diving into Israeli culture through food, history, and creativity. Taking inspiration from Prime Minister Golda Meir's legendary "Kitchen Cabinet," students gathered at their own mock mitbach (kitchen) to share food, explore Israeli traditions, and discuss the values that matter most to them.

Along the way, they played Israeli Guess Who, learned about famous Israelis, and created their own Hanoch Piven-inspired self-portraits. This is Jewish learning at its most delicious. ๐Ÿ’œ
