To everyone affected by the recent storms from Helene, we send to you healing chi. We wish we could support you in person, but that is not currently possible, so we hold you close in the Healing Circle, and encourage some long, slow, deep breaths to help you manage the stress. Easier said than done, certainly, but we do have western science and eastern philosophy that remind us that controlling our breathing pattern and focus can influence our mood, our anxiety levels, and, importantly, our energy, both physical and spiritual. When we feel that we are going to explode from the stress, it can be best to focus on the exhalation, even breathing out quickly and saying "ha" a few times can help 'let it out'. If we are feeling lack of energy but rest is not imminent, we focus on the full, deep inhale, as if to draw strength from the air itself, and simply allow the exhale. Even just taking One minute to focus on one of these patterns can provide a bit of support, and help to 'reset' energy so it can be focused on the task at hand. Not a cure-all, but a help. We will soon hold a workshop that will be free for those affected and for those not affected, their fee will be 100% donated to one of the proven, cleared charities that are on site supporting recovery. That info to come later, but for now, perhaps, try just to...breathe.... ☯️

Greetings, all, we have another great FREE workshop Monday, Sept. 30, at 11AM for those dealing with a cancer diagnosis, pre-, during, or post treatment! A FREE lunch is also provided! This workshop is at the Chapman Cancer Wellness Center at Piedmont West, located at Howell mill and I 75. Details upon registration. T’AI CHI AND QI GONG TO BUILDING ENERGY AND STRENGTH FOR THE LUNGS IN AUTUMN---Autumn is the season in which we focus on the Lungs. In this particular time of respiratory concern, all attention paid to the Lungs is well placed. We will work to calm any irritation and boost good, strong Lung energy. In T'ai Chi/Qi Gong theories, illness in the Lungs may be associated with sadness, or depression, which may cause shallow breathing and a lack of energy, and the result could be a downward spiral. Let’s change that with an upward lift and practice long, slow, deep, cleansing breaths using uplifting imagery! We’ll use movements that inspire a brighter focus and lung expansion, and the energy opening will follow! Suitable for seated or standing work, we will help the joy and peacefulness flow easily! Lunch will be provided.
Please see our web page to register!

Good beautiful morning to you! In honor of Langston Hughes, whose birthday was Feb. 1, and for the vision of new opportunities, I offer my favorite poem of his...Dreams... "Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly. Hold fast to dreams for if dreams go, life is a barren field, frozen with snow"...so perhaps you may wish to look up, breathe deeply, and remember a dream you have for yourself! With joy, Cate

THE WHAT AND THE WHY!

You have heard about the many evidence-based benefits of practicing T'ai Chi and Qi Gong. You might have wondered about taking a class, and asked yourself, “What is this?”, “Is it for me?”, “What will I get from it?”, “Can I do it?”, “What if I need to sit down occasionally?” To answer these questions, and more, we offer the following:

---WHAT ARE T'AI CHI (pronounced “tie chee”) and QI GONG (pronounced “chee gong”)?

Simply put, T'ai Chi and Qi Gong are systems of movements developed long ago. Continued practice of both systems helps to increase strength, flexibility, and cardio-vascular endurance, to improve balance, breath control, and mental focus, to boost the immune system, to reduce stress, and lower blood pressure, to help reduce symptoms associated with arthritis, to help prevent osteoporosis, prevent falls, and to improve general health. T’ai Chi began first as a martial art, and is now often practiced to improve health. T'ai Chi (also seen spelled taiji, taichi) sets use several different movements, or “forms”, practiced in a flowing sequence to work the entire body, as well as to develop focus, strength, and flexibility of mind, body, and spirit. In Qi Gong (also seen spelled Chi Gong,Chi Kung), an individual movement, or “form”, is generally repeated several times, and sets of these forms generally focus on specific issues or concepts, such as Qi Gong for relaxation, or Qi Gong to strengthen ligaments and tendons, or Qi Gong to boost Kidney qi or Heart qi. Though the focus of a set of Qi Gong may be specific, the general benefits are also usually realized. Qi (Chi) basically refers to essential life energy, the “breath of life”. For more detail specific to your needs, please email us at the above address.

--WHAT IS THE INSTRUCTOR'S PART?

There is dedication on the part of our instructors to provide clear instruction, demonstration, and information, to answer questions, to create an enjoyable atmosphere in which learning can take place,to share all of his or her knowledge about T'ai Chi and Qi Gong, to encourage the practice of this exercise system that is healthful for the mind and body.Classes are taught in an easy, relaxed manner and accommodations are made for each individual. The instructor is your guide.

WHAT IS MY PART?

There should be dedication on the part of the student to attend class regularly (make-ups are provided), to ask questions as they arise and to practice between classes, even for just minutes a day. The student should only move his/her body just to the point of resistance, that is to say never beyond what feels good. Feel free to ask the instructor at anytime for clarification, more information, or for a specific issue, how to adapt the movements to fit your needs! The experience should be calming and gentle, as well as enjoyable and energizing!

WHAT TO WEAR, HOW TO PREPARE:

Wear loose clothing that allows free movement of arms and legs, often, a layered approach is convenient. For footwear, choose flat-soled shoes, socks, or go barefooted, whatever meets your comfort for the surface on which you are practicing. Keep water or other nourishing fluid handy. If you wish, have a balance tool nearby (a chair, table, wall, whatever you might use to touch or hold onto if stability is an issue for you at times, or for you to use to balance on one foot during some movements, if you choose to do so.Modifications of movements can also be made for seated work).

WHEN SHOULD I EXPECT RESULTS?
Everyone’s experience will be unique, but, generally, if the student is dedicated and practices well, some benefits can often be realized after just a few classes!Of course, the more a student attends classes and practices, the more benefits he or she receives!

WE INVITE YOU TO JOIN US ON THE PATH TO HEALTH WELLNESS AND JOY!
---If you are interested in trying out the class, please let us know by emailing to [email protected].

Good day, all! This came across my desk, and I thought immediately of Master Chen, of course. The message, "you can be your own worst enemy", is true for many of us many times, but can certainly be turned around, with intention, to being your own best friend!
