We are incredibly thankful for the family of Mr. Llewellyn Scott for keeping these safe all these years. Mr. Scott was one of the principals of Washington Seminary, along with his sister, Miss Emma Scott. Up until this point we only had five catalogs for WS, from 1927-1948. They donated 43 catalogs, dating from 1889 through 1945. Just incredible and wonderful! This is a treasure trove, Nancy Fairbanks.

Ten schools in one week equal a notebook full of ideas as well as questions and issues to consider. In order to ensure that each of the visits is recorded as completely as possible, I am working with each archivist in each institution for a more in-depth report. It's a daunting task, with the amount of material collected so far to even select where to begin....

Background of the Project In October of 2022, I proposed a project to visit other school archives during the summer break of 2023. Part of the purpose was to visit school archives that were already using (or perhaps about to start using) a program called Preservica, but also to meet with other school archivists face-to-face. In many school archives, there is typically only one person managing the collection, or perhaps a few part-time personnel....

November is National Native American Heritage Month. One of the questions I have received as the school archivist is which Native American tribe originally lived on the land on which the school now is located. This topic is one that not only is of general interest but could also be developed as lesson plans for many of the grade levels....

This year, we thought we would highlight a few of the first African American faculty and administration at the school. Today, we are featuring the first African American faculty member at Westminster, Mr. Samuel C. Hagan, who taught biology from 1972 to 1976. He is first mentioned in October 1972 issue of The Westminster Bi-Line, in the article highlighting all the new faculty coming in that fall, under the title "New Teachers Offer Unique Backgrounds, Experiences." …...

During the 2005 Black History Month celebrations were two assemblies "with" Langston Hughes, the most important poet of the Harlem Renaissance, eloquently portrayed by Westminster’s legendary Mr. Robert Nash. Mr. Nash “spoke” as Langston Hughes, describing the events of his life which led him to Harlem, his spiritual home. His narrative was peppered with poetry readings which reflected the emotions of the African American as well as the rhythms of the music of Harlem....

The Association for the Study of African American Life and History has set the 2021 Black History Month theme as The Black Family: Representation, Identity, and Diversity.
