ECE Provider Discussion 04/27/2022

In partnership with Voices for Georgia’s Children (Voices), HealthMPowers, The Hand, Heart, and Soul Project, and Quality Care for Children, BCDI-Atlanta invites childcare providers to participate in a virtual small group discussion on Georgia’s Quality Rated and Improvement System (QR) and current childcare provider priorities.

We’d like to hear directly from providers about what high-quality child care ideally looks like and what programs need to provide high-quality childcare. We look forward to hearing multiple diverse viewpoints from all corners of our state. The information learned in this conversation will help us work to improve the resources and guidance provided to child care programs in Georgia, both generally and specifically related to QRIS.

If you decide to participate, you will be asked to join a one-time 1.5-hour virtual Zoom meeting, held sometime between May and July, with about 10 - 15 other childcare providers facilitated by a Voices staff member. Voices are seeking representatives from across the state to ensure our learnings are reflective of all providers' needs. Your responses will remain anonymous and we will protect your responses by not recording the conversation or writing your name in the written version of the conversation. All participants will receive a $75 gift card.

If you are interested in participating in this discussion please complete the following registration form by May 2, 2022, and a team member will reach out to you with further details. Click here for registration.

Creative Child Care Careers: Rebranding our Positions

The pandemic has forever changed the child care landscape and we need fresh tools to help us succeed. More than ever, we are facing a dilemma with staffing issues and keeping up with the school's overhead cost. Colleges and universities across the world are realizing that more people are not majoring in education and seeing a steady decline in enrollment. But all is not lost, there are some people who feel that education particularly child care is something that they to pursue. Yes, the competition is steep but we need a new roadmap to only retain our best and brightest but attract those as well. I've experienced firsthand how a Director saw my untapped potential which led to opportunities that otherwise would have been dormant. When thinking about your child development center, ponder on what's needed, who can accomplish it, and advertise for it. With greater reason, we must develop our employee's untapped potential like never before. You'll need a notebook or laptop to jot down all the ideas that will come to fruition while listening to this podcast. As a former educator, one of my favorite holidays to celebrate with children is Valentine's Day. I wanted to evolve my teaching practices around this season and the love curriculum was birthed. The lesson plans focused on children learning about friendship, empathy and love of course. I thought to myself, why not have all the children have their own special holiday in February. I noticed that the children began to have a more deeper connection as a class family and the entire school acknowledged the class togetherness through bonding activities celebrating their special holiday. In morning meetings, the children discussed how they would incorporate the special holiday throughout the day.

Why high-quality daycare can save your child's childhood? PODCAST

In these unprecedented times, educators, families, and children need a safe haven for learning and a strong sense of community. At this point, we've all heard the slogan," In this together" while recording this podcast, I keep this slogan in the forefront of my mind. Aside from caring for our early learners, you'll listen to my journey about how a Kindergarten play-based model built a sense of security and safety as a young child. Those lasting memories have inspired me to become a long-life advocate of play-based learning which has evolved into an almost two-decade career in child development. In this podcast, I passionately discuss how high-quality child care can save your child's childhood. Listen through the lens of a former educator, administrator, and simply a person who is committed to the humanity of the child care center field. I'm calling all individuals who listen to this podcast to advocate for your local child care center. Whether it's donating towards getting antigen tests and appropriate masks, giving a kind word or card, nourishing the community through meals, or applying grace. We all need each other more than ever and now is the time to demonstrate to our early learners that are safe to trust us through this period of time.
