The Internal Revenue Service has issued guidance providing transition relief for third-party settlement organizations(TPSO) also known as payment apps and online marketplaces. TPSOs will be required to report transactions when the amount of the total payments for those transactions is more than $5,000 in 2024; more than 2,500 in 2025; and more than $600 in calendar year 2026 and after. 

What’s the difference between Cash App personal accounts and Cash App business Accounts?

Your cashapp personal account is for sending, receiving for peer-to-peer, non-commercial payments(e.g. splitting lunch you had with a friend).

Cash App for business accounts are designed to help small business owners and entrepreneurs accept payments for goods and services. They automatically deduct a fee of 2.75% from each payment accepted with a business account, and they issue a Form 1099-K as applicable.

If you have a cash app business account, your cashapp personal app account profile will have a green business badge.

It’s extremely important if you are having a tax professional or a tax preparer file your return for you that you receive a full copy of your return for your records. Don’t just take someone’s word that they are putting your correct information on your return. The liability always falls back on the taxpayer not the tax preparer. Yes you can file a complaint against the person but the debt is still yours. Lately I have had several people come to me to correct a problem on their return but when I ask for a copy of the return to try and see what the error is they don’t have a copy of their return. Which means they never saw the return or even signed it before it was submitted.
