IDEAL Program at GSU The Inclusive Digital Expression and Literacy (IDEAL) Program is an inclusive post-secondary program for students with mild intellectual disabilities.

In the heart of Atlanta, we support students in exploring their interests + skills to succeed in college IDEAL is an inclusive post-secondary education program for students with mild intellectual disabilities at Georgia State University that began in January 2017. The Inclusive Digital Expression and Literacy (IDEAL) Program offers a 2-year course of study:
• Students audit courses offered by Geo

rgia State University colleges and academic departments related to their interests;
• Each semester take a seminar course related to independent living and executive functioning.
• Complete work-study and internship experiences related to media, communications, and/or the arts; and
• Participate in a variety of extracurricular activities on campus.

A look at this week’s Making & Baking Club! On Monday, we cooled down with some ice cream sundaes 🍨, and on Wednesday, we got creative making friendship bracelets 🧵✨ IDEAL students, if you have some free time after class, come join us Mondays & Wednesdays at 3 PM for some time to make, create, and connect!

What an incredible way to wrap up our summer camps! 🌟

During our second and final week, students across our Pre-ETS Camp, Boys Camp, and Girls Camp spent the week learning, growing, and making lasting memories together. From starting each day with wellness activities to exploring Georgia State’s campus, creating T-shirts and picture collages, attending community outings, and building friendships, every day was filled with new experiences.

Thank you to all of the campers, staff, and partners who made this summer such a success. We enjoyed watching everyone learn, grow and connect throughout the camp experience!

Kicking off Day 1 of IDEAL’s Pre-ETS Summer Camp!☀️

Our Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) Summer Camp helps students build the skills, confidence, and experiences needed to explore future careers and prepare for life after high school. Through engaging, hands-on activities, students have opportunities to discover their interests, develop workplace readiness skills, and learn more about potential career pathways.

Today, campers got to know one another through fun icebreakers and activities that helped them discover shared interests. Students also explored career possibilities through job exploration activities and toured Georgia State’s campus to learn about different jobs and career paths that keep campus running.

We’re excited for a week full of learning, growth, and new experiences! 🌟

Another day, another adventure! ✨

Yesterday, our Girls Group visited Morehouse College to explore the world of STEM and assistive technology. Students tested out virtual reality experiences, learned about innovative tools that support people with disabilities, and connected with STEM students on campus. 🥽💻

They also took time to learn about the history and significance of HBCUs and the important role they continue to play in education and community.

Inclusive Postsecondary Education (IPSE) programs, like IDEAL at Georgia State University, create meaningful opportunities for students with intellectual disabilities to access college experiences, build independence, and prepare for their futures.

Through IPSE, our students are not only gaining academic and career skills. They’re building confidence, forming connections, and becoming active members of their communities. 💙
