Why small groups? 🤍

Because in a class of 30, students get lost. In a small group, they get SEEN.

Look at him. Fully in it — building his own experiment right alongside the lesson, not just watching a screen. That only happens when a student feels like the class is theirs.

I know exactly where each of my students is. I can see who’s got the concept and who needs me to slow down and walk through it one more time. I know who’s quiet because they’re focused and who’s quiet because they’re stuck. That’s not something you can do with thirty students.

When a child is truly known as a learner, everything changes. They stop hiding. They start trying. And that’s when the growth happens. ✨

That’s the whole reason FreeWorld Academy exists.

THIS is why I do what I do. 🤍✨

One of my middle school students has been working with me on his writing, and last week, his English teacher was so impressed with a piece he wrote that she shared it with his class... and then with ALL of her 8th grade classes!

When his mom told him it came from our work together, he agreed. 🥹

This is what personalized, live teaching does. When a child gets real attention, real feedback, and someone who believes in them, they don't just improve, they SHINE. And the best part? That confidence follows them right back into their own classroom.

Week 5 of Camp FreeWorld Explorers started yesterday.

This week our Explorers are leaving the classroom behind and stepping into the future.

We are so excited to welcome Victor Hicks — Founder and CEO of Coding with Culture— to our community this week. Our Explorers will be learning coding, AI literacy, and design thinking from one of Atlanta’s most inspiring tech educators.

These children are about to discover that they are not just consumers of technology.

They are creators of it.

Last week we officially completed Week 3 — Explore Space. 🚀🧭

Our Explorers became engineers, designers, and astronauts. They built their own astronaut boots, launched straw rockets, and designed Mars landers from scratch.

Watching them problem solve, test, redesign, and celebrate their successes this week reminded me exactly why we do this work. These children are capable of so much more than we often give them credit for.

Next up — Week 4 Explore Music! 🎶

Day 1 is in the books. 🧭🤍

Today our Explorers walked in, found their seats, and became a community. We introduced the Explorer Code, met some of the greatest Black explorers and innovators who ever lived, and got our very first look at this week’s STEAM challenge.
