Warmest congratulations to Malak Hashem, recipient of the 2020 ECLC Excellence in Language Studies Award in Latin!

Malak Hashem is a junior majoring in Classics at Emory College of Arts and Sciences. She enjoys reading Ovid, Catullus, and Cicero (when he is angry). In her free time, she tries her hand at sewing historical clothing.

Warmest congratulations to Kaustubh A. Gopal, recipient of the 2020 ECLC Excellence in Language Studies Award in Hindi!

Kaustubh is a graduating senior that is a double major in Neuroscience & Behavioral Biology and Middle Eastern & South Asian Studies. He is particularly interested in how Orientalist history shapes modern socio-political contexts particularly within the South Asian Subcontinent as well as the role that the humanities play in STEM. Upon graduation, Kaustubh will be a Teach for America corp member in the metro Atlanta region teaching high school math at Carver STEAM Academy where he will simultaneously be working towards a Master’s in Education from Johns Hopkins University. Kaustubh hopes to attend medical school afterwards in the pursuit of becoming a Trauma Surgeon. He intends to use the skills he gained as an Emory student to create systems level change across multiple sectors to bridge the opportunity gap that marginalized communities face.
