We keep building. We keep moving. We keep pushing forward so that the next generation understands their assignment.
The assignment is to refuse anything less than their absolute best. That’s why we show up for them everyday so that they can make their own Black History Moment and build what they want to see for the world.

Thank you Biden for showing us all how to "pass the torch" with grace last night.
Over the past 4 days, Biden has masterly lifted generations of hurdles, road blocks and barriers to pave a better path for future generations of Black and Brown folks to see themselves in spaces of power. For this Black mama, teacher and woman, I salute him and anyone in seats of power and authority that knows when and how to yield power with and for the next generation of leaders. I know this is probably not how he wanted it to end, but nonetheless his grace and humility to do so anyway was a chef's kiss for so many that come after him.
No matter who the nominee will be next month, the facts are that he used his privilege, influence and power to elevate a Black and South Asian woman, Kamala Harris, from an HBCU called Howard University, who is a member of a historically Black (not colored) Sorority called Alpha Kappa Alpha, Incorporated, to be his VP and his successor for the President of the United States, with all the resources, human capital and tools at her disposal. This is a master class in how mentors and true allies can set you up and position you for a win.
So as I prepare not only to organize to elect a highly qualified, respected and amazing leader and soror, I also am preparing to go back into schools this Fall. But this year, I need some Biden-like mentors on my side. Our kids need skill-based mentorship to elevate their work and skills to the next level. They need business mentors, artist mentors, professional mentors, skill-based mentors across a number of careers to help them navigate the future of work that teachers can't. I know as a teacher myself, I certainly needed help in this area as I prepared for every graduation with my students and they stared back at me with looks of confusion and anxiety.
But the good news is that in Atlanta alone, serving over 15000 high school students in career pathways, over 75% of students completing a pathway earned an industry credential. Check it out: https://lnkd.in/gn6jAA3M
But without mentorship and allies, our students struggle to know what to do next after they get the piece of paper. Just like Kamala is qualified with all the papers and education, she still needed a mentor and an ally to position her to excel at the highest office in the land.
We need folks like you to share your skills and talents with our students as skills-based mentors because education and papers are not enough. Comment in the chat or message me if you want to get more information on how. But this is a historic moment, for VP Harris, but more importantly for all of us to lean in and look forward to helping the next generation lead. Reach out so we can do this together.

Self-care is crucial for productivity! When you take care of yourself, you ultimately save time and can do more of the things you love with the people you love. Rest is just as important as productivity, so make sure to prioritize it during the holiday season. Take a break, relax, and recharge before the new year 💤 You deserve it 💛
