This Memorial Day, we honor those who served by empowering students to serve with purpose.

As part of a new service learning pilot, Grade 3 students chose to give up their recess to partner with residents at MV Village. After learning about the significance of Memorial Day and residents’ love of poppies, students stepped in to design and lead a holiday-themed arts and crafts experience from the ground up.

From creating puzzles, poppies, and flags to supporting residents one-on-one, students led with empathy, creativity, and heart.

Most inspiring of all? They’re already imagining what comes next — hoping to build an ongoing partnership and continue serving their neighbors with their whole hearts.

The Lower School Activities Hall has been completely transformed by our Grade 5 students into an immersive celebration of creativity, collaboration, and student agency. 🎨✨

From wearable art and oversized installations to filmmaking, sound design, set creation, and storytelling, students led every part of this one-of-a-kind fashion and design experience. Working in fashion houses and production teams, they brought bold ideas to life while navigating collaboration, problem-solving, and creative risk-taking together.

More than an art installation, this project became a powerful glimpse into what students can accomplish when given trust, independence, and the space to create with purpose.

There’s a unique energy on campus this time of year. As we head into the final week of school, the days are filled with moments of joy, celebration, reflection, and plenty of excitement for what’s still to come.

From Field Day and Arts Showcases to MVees, Baccalaureate rehearsals, and the Senior Salute Parade, these traditions bring our community together in such meaningful ways.

They remind us that Mount Vernon is more than a place students attend. It’s a community built through shared experiences, lasting connections, and the everyday moments that students, families, and faculty create together.

One more week to celebrate all that this year has been. 💙

A Limited Window to Leave Your Mark

The opportunity to be part of this story in a lasting, visible way is limited. With just 135 bricks remaining and reservations open through May 31, this final chapter of the campaign is quickly taking shape. Each brick will become part of a shared space where students gather, families connect, and milestones are celebrated.

What happens when you turn a school day into a canvas?

Last Friday, our Lower School stepped into Arts in Action Day, a full-day experience designed to move beyond performance and into process. From rhythm and movement to design, storytelling, and hands-on creation, students explored what it means to see themselves as artists.

Through time with visiting artists and immersive sessions, creativity became a way to connect, express, and make meaning.

Our Lower School celebrated Earth Day with curiosity, care, and action, from hearing from our Tree Club founding members to getting their hands in the soil planting seedlings to take home. A special thank you to Smurfit Westrock for partnering with us in this meaningful experience.

Because when students connect to the world around them, lasting impact begins.
