From a Peachtree Aikido mom...
"Recently my son took his Aikido test. His challenge: defend against three black belts simultaneously. They were bigger, stronger, and more skilled, but he passed.
As his mom, my heart was in my throat the entire time. He faced all three calmly and never showed a trace of fear. Watching him on that mat taught me more about leadership than most business books I’ve read.
Aikido is different from other martial arts. There are no tournaments. No trophies. No competition against an opponent. The philosophy is rooted in harmony, not dominance. The goal is to redirect force rather than meet it head on. To stay calm when everything around you is in motion. To find balance precisely when it feels most out of reach.
That’s not just a martial arts philosophy. That’s a leadership one.
The best leaders I’ve observed don’t overpower resistance. They redirect it. They don’t panic under pressure. They slow down when everyone else is speeding up. They know that absorbing a challenge and responding with intention is almost always more effective than matching force with force. But none of that is possible without one thing underneath it all — the willingness to step forward before you feel ready.
Courage isn’t the absence of fear or feeling fully ready. It’s choosing to meet the moment when it counts. Onward!"
