Today we celebrate Juneteenth Independence Day, also referred to as "Freedom Day". ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
June 19th, 1865 marked a historic event in the State of Texas. On that day, enslaved African Americans received word of their emancipation.
Pictured is the Freedom Tree located in Missouri City, TX. It was under this tree on the Palmer Plantation that Ed Gibbs gathered all of the workers to inform them that slavery had ended.
